I don't know about you, but I'd wager that most (read >50%) people on the steam forums have no idea what they're talking about."

"Tf2 isn't even a very competitive game (look at the graphics bro, it was made for fun) so you can't call it dead b/c "pros" don't use it."

"All the time. The trick is to not let them get close enough to be "overpowered". From a distance a scout isnt going to bother me much. The best they can do is flank and get the team out of position. Then they have a better chance."

"If scouts were so OP, they would roll 4 scouts in competitive. But they only roll 2."

"If all the Classes are OP then doesnt it make them all Balanced and scout is a little bit UP?"

The sad thing is that these people are the majority of TF2 players and ultimately are who Valve designs the unlocks for.

I havn't got the time to read the article yet Chro but am looking forward to reading it later tonight.

Instead of a railgun, why not go with a more whimsical spanner with a rope attached?

Okay read. Agreed with some of it, though not all the class balance oppinions and suggestions. But I agree with the core essence of the 'article'.

Good job!  I have a few things I'd like to mention, though:

- You have a habit of capitalizing the first letter of a sentence and then not capitalizing the rest of it.  This confused me at first (e.g. use of 'Sandman').  I noticed that you type like this (in this thread at least), but if you post it elsewhere, other people may have some difficulty at first as I did.

- As others have stated, you're arrogant in the paper.  Since the game is about killing people/achieving objectives, how you accomplish that really matters--and that's where the "competitive vs. casual" deal comes in.  I'm a casual player, but I think that you described how competitive players play the game/use the weapons and thus should avoid stating that "I clearly avoid casual vs. competitive topics as much as possible to keep it clean." It's just not possible to do so when your'e talking about a game like TF2.

- Along those lines, things like "One last thing, people need to stop giving the SMG crap. I love that weapon and can be used to snipe a person who you’ve hit with an arrow clear across fastlane mid. My SMG works fine, yours doesn’t, don’t confuse the two" should be left out.  It's offsetting for the reader (especially if they're a casual player) and doesn't have anything to do with what's wrong with the game.  The players, maybe, but not the game.

- Choose your audience: Valve or the Steam Forums? You have a line directly speaking to Valve, but parts of the paper refer to the "casual gamer" (such as the line above).  How seriously can Valve take this if you express your frustration with the "casual gamer" in the paper itself?

- One last thing: if you're going to describe this paper as neither "competitive" or "casual," you need to think about how the "casual" player uses the weapons as well.  Maybe add in a section or shout-out or something.  What's the use of the Razorback to the "competitive" player? Nothing, you say.  However, for the casual player that doesn't want to get backstabbed in his/her 1-2 hours of play per day, it's very useful if all s/he wants to do is stand and snipe and not die so often from backstabs.

All in all, make it less arrogant if you're directing this to Valve, less hatin' on the "casual player" (more lovin'), and choose your audience. But I'm glad I read someone else's take on what works and what doesn't in the game.

I have to go to school so I can't finish it right now, but I read up to the medic and so far I agree with most of it.

You might as well have said "However, for the casual player that doesn't want to get backstabbed in his/her 1-2 hours of play per day, it's very useful if all s/he wants to do is be bad." Standing around like that and not watching your back is called being terrible. The razorback is useless to anyone who is decent at the game, comp or casual. I had 970/1000 kills on kill everyone you meet when I got consolation prize (get backstabbed 50 times). It isn't hard to avoid backstabs as a sniper.
