30,000 ft. fall?

How long must you exactly fall?  I've fallen for minutes and still haven't unlocked the achievement.  I always fall forever but then eventually hit the edge of a portal and stop.

I'm not on my home PC to check this, but falling 30,000 feet is the equivalent of falling about 6 miles (5.7 ish). If we go on the idea that your maximum fall speed is around 200 MPH (about average skydive speed) you are looking at falling for nearly 6 minutes straight.

Wait, infinite portals for that counts?

No freaking wonder.

I set up an infinite portal and waited about 5 minutes before getting bored and moving on.  Then I set two portals directly adjacent to one another on a wall and checked myself out by walking half-way through it. The chic in portal is pretty hot

Though I haven't bothered to try it yet, a good way to get this Achievement would be to find an enormous room to jump through, so your fall from ceiling to floor is longer. Meaning you have more feet to your fall before you have a chance of getting stuck on the edge. (or that's the theory anyways)

It was very easy.  Find a spot where the ceiling is very low (A turret room under giant pistons on 19 worked perfect for me).  I'm guestimating it was an 8 foot ceiling.  Portal right above, portal right below, go have a cigarette.  Came back and hit escape, the achievement was listed as complete.

Using a low ceiling is the key so you don't get too far off track and hit the floor.

Yeah I would suggest using a low ceiling. The longer the fall I've found the more likely it is that at some point you will drift and you are more likely to be pushed back on course with a lower fall distance.

..I thought it had to be on a single jump...lol...anyways,ever notice in infinite portals that you the longer you fall the longer you fall the faster you start to spin? Have to have portal funnel on for it to work though.

Just got it.
Took me approx. 5 minutes and I used a high ceiling with as perfectly aligned portals as I could get. Thankfully the floors and ceilings have a grid pattern

Reap3r, what number do you have the funnels set to? It recommended 2 on my system and, not completely understanding what it was for, left it at that without testing. What sort of affect & effect do higher numbers have? I suppose this would be in the manual... if it had one.
