A Pyro is an Engineer's Best Friend

My favorite class to play is Engineer, but when there's too many engineers on my team, and too many spies on the other team, I switch to Pyro.

The best way for a Pyro to help on defense is to be the Engineer's best friend. That is, hover between Turrets and Dispensers, and give a light torch to anyone and everyone that comes near. You don't need to worry about your flame running out, because you'll constantly be reloaded (and healed) by the dispenser, and your fiery greeting to passers-by will ensure that your engineer and his turrets aren't sabotaged.

It is for this reason that I believe every Engineer should have a Pyro buddy, and vice versa.

Pyro + Engineer > 2 Engineers.

I agree.

I was playing engineer recently on 2 Fort.

Had my sentry set up in the main ramp room.....a really good player/pyro was helping just as you described.

A quick blast of fire to spy check.....if they catch fire you know they're going to blow their cover because they're about to die

I play Heavy and do the same thing.  Pyros are much better at detection, since the spy player will always light up like a marshmallow.

However, the HWGuy is like a walking sentry gun - and he's very fun to play with when you have sentries and dispensers placed upstairs in 2fort.

yea this is a old thread but its true! i was just on dustbowl on the 3rd part, put it in that little fort that faces to two gates and ended up with 27 sentry kills, the highest i ever got! mainly because a pyro was beside me the whole time using his airblast to deflect rockets and stickies, worked beautifully

Yeah well, if the pair can find a way to get rid of that annoying sniper who keep doing head shots on the pyro and engineer, then it will work lol...nah jk

Anyways I still think the pyro would need to be very accuarte with the air blast to pull this off. Afterall, it does have a delay time for each blast

Whenever I play this strategy, I don't spend the whole game near the engineer. i'll usually leave the sentry for thirty seconds or so to help out with defensive fighting nearby. It's not long enough for a spy to get in and out, but I still help the team out.

Yeah...and this probably only works as a defensive strategy. On offense the team would probably hate you for not pushing and sticking around with the sentry.

You guys forgot about the best way a Pyro can help an Engi out on defense... right-clicking.

See an uber turn the corner? Push him back. Push his medic far enough back that he loses invulnerability. Properly aimed and timed air blasts are invaluable for maintaining a solid turret defense.
