1) There are three different types of attacks (for melee): the horizontal slash, the overhead bash, and the stab.
The speed, power, and spread of these swings differs from weapon to weapon, so experiment.
2) Try and bait your opponents into making mistakes: i.e., make him swing before he's in range and miss, or make him swing so you can parry and then follow up with a quick attack.
3) Learn how to parry. I would remap this function to mouse5 or something.
4) Push F to change the size of them minimap.
5) Ranged weapons are very hard to aim, but are beastly when you can. The Crossbowman has by far the most power of the three ranged classes, but you can't move while reloading, so be sure to keep your distance before you reload. The Longbow is a great close-mid ranged weapon, due to it's quick reload time. Just be sure to run as soon as someone charges you. And finally, the Javelineer is more like a support class, you should stay somewhat close to your allies and try to land some spear kills, and when you run out, switch to your spear/shield and help out any allies you can. Just keep in mind that in Toe 2 Toe, you are probably the second or third worst melee class.
