The Heavy being my most played class, and the class I most like to play with, I think I'm going to try and give my share of HWG forum posting for the good of the community. Some (or maybe every single one) of the things I say will be stuff you know already if you've played heavy more than 20 hours, but repeating is one of the best ways to learn.
Gonna be a longish post, so I'm gonna give some keywords and such. Part 1: General facts
Part 2: General Heavy tips
Part 3: The most elite TF2 combo ever: The feared Heavymedic team!
Part 4: Heavy vs other classes
Part 1 --------------------------------- General FactsFact 1: YOU DIE WHEN HURT TOO MUCH
Nuff said.
Fact 2: Medics
You want one to help you, and you don't want them to help the enemy. These guys are important! In fact, a medic can double your effectiveness. A good medic triples it. If you can find yourself a reliable medic partner and learn to play as a team of two, you will become one of the backbones of your team.
Fact 3: Natural EnemiesWhen there is a sniper too far away from you, DONT GO TO THE OPEN, unless you are SURE he won't notice you, or has trouble with something else. If you have to retreat from one, dodge! Crouch! Strafe! Shoot the shotgun towards him! Do NOT use the minigun! Sniper is the bane of heavies, RUN! .. Or, if you have a sniper/spy that can cover you from them, you can be there to draw attention while your friend picks off the distracted sniper. Risky, but if your mate can do it..
Fact 4: Corners / Medikits / Running away
A heavy needs to use corners to his advantage, and run for a healthpack
whenever he is alone and without a medic. But that is a general rule,
that applies to ALL classes, so do not consider that as the only thing
that is really important for heavy playing! That is important for
everyone.
Fact 5: ShotgunShotty deals more damage from afar, and you can move faster while using it. I've even used the shotty while übered and running for a better place to shoot the defending team of babies. A shotty to weaken some enemies before revving up is a good choice - the more you hurt, the better.
Fact 6: SpiesThey do exist. Spy check! The minigun is a perfect tool for revealing cloaked spies, as the cloak flickers when the spy takes damage. Sometimes minigunning "empty" doorways or areas can reveal a spy and save your big fat butt.
Fact 7: SentriesYou can kill a lvl 3 sentry ALONE if you can get into close combat with it. Don't even waste your time if you can't.
Fact 8: Knockback
If you jump, and get hit while in mid-air, you
will go flying despite you're being the biggest guy in the team. Especially if the hit is from a melee weapon. Bonk.
Part 2 -------------------------------------- General Heavy TipsWhen you do the most damage:Up close. If you can run next to the enemy and shoot him from there, do it. The closer, the better. You can mow down a fully healed heavy in 3 seconds if you are next to him.
Basics of solo play:
- Being a soloing heavy means that you will have to play carefully most of the time. Support your teammates, and if you decide to go sneaking, try to get as many enemies off guard without going down yourself. You're just too valuable to go down because you went reckless and decided to be the only front line for the team, only to die in few seconds. Common sense is even more valuable when playing solo, and you also need to know your surroundings even better than without a (good) medic
