Well is just like regular CP well sniping. Lumberyard, i haven't played much on, but overall, I haven't really had that much luck sniping. Arena seems dominated by scouts/solders/demos/medics.

  • It's hard.
  • Spies are pretty valuable in arena, meaning there will be many games with at least one running around looking for you.
  • If you're not a good sniper it's better you play some other class. When people know there's a sniper about they'll send people after you and tend not to come out of the obvious ways that you're looking at, since there's no real incentive other than to get shot.
  • Don't stay in scope. You're just asking to get flanked by pyros/scouts/soliders/demos, or backstabbed by a spy. As sniper keep looking in all directions. This includes behind you, beside you, common flanking routes, etc. Be sure to report movement to your team.
  • When you're being flanked, noscope and SMG, while making a run for your allies. That's the only way you can guarantee survivability.
  • Countersniping is a pain. Usually the other sniper is buffed. The most I can say is try to surprise the other sniper. When you know where he is, and he knows where you are, chances are if you change positions he'll be looking in the same place for you.
  • Kill medics. Whenever possible. It doesn't matter if you score less kills than the soliders and demos on your team (score means nothing in TF2), if you can kill the enemy medic you are probably the reason why your team just won.
  • Don't practice in Arena if you're trying to learn to snipe.
  • Honestly if you have difficulty as sniper in some maps go medic or something. Lately I've been playing a lot of kritz medic on arena and I've found that I can be way more effective by giving a solider/demo a string of crits than I could be trying to snipe.
  • Some maps like arena granary are just anti sniper. The granary middle point is possibily one of the worst sniping spots of any map I've seen and its been made into its own arena map.
  • If the rest of your team is dead, hide somewhere where you get a good vantage point on the control point and start charging shots (if you're going to die now, might as well make some powerful headshots). When it unlocks they'll go to take it, start taking them out while they guess where you are. You have far more of a chance doing that then running in with the craptacular SMG or Machete.
  • Arena sniping is something to really get used to. It has drastically less people so your role becomes more valuable, and if you think you aren't helping out, just switch.

1.  Dont snipe on granary.

2.  Always move.

3. Take out key targets first.  Enemy medics are your main priority as well as snipers.

4. Relay information of your enemies' whereabouts.  These maps are small, and knowing where the other team is is highly crucial in proper positioning.  I am of the belief that if you know where they are then you should win.

I wouldnt take Yoshi's suggestion of not playing sniper as long as you are the only sniper on your team, and it already has medic, soldiers, and demos.

I didn't mean "don't play sniper". I meant more like if you're a better demo or solider then you'd be more useful to your team like that.

Kill ther medic. After that, you are free to rapidfire without fear of them getting helaed (besides heavies and, maybe if they have an engineer this wont work)
KILL THEIR MEDIC
NOT JOKING, MEDIC IS NO. 1 TARGET
Always check your back, for sneaky people.
Spies are common in arena, be vewry wary.
If the round is about to go to cp, Find a hiding spot that you can see the entire cp from and that is relatively safe.
Dont stay on your own, try to keep with your team (dont follow them around, but dont sit on the other side of the map to them)
Coordinate attacks, make double strikes (as in, a spy can stab the medic and you can snipe the heavy, or vise versa)
Make sure you and another sniper are not aiming for the same target, unless purposely going for the same enemy to kill them instantly (e.g. 2 snipers hitting a heavy with not fully charged headshots)

Pretty much what yoshi and durban said.

Stay mobile, be unpredictable, aim well, and hide behind your teammates.

I find badlands hard to snipe on because it's dark, but lumber is very easy, and ravine medium.

lol

In one of the desert ones, above the spawn is a perfect sniping spot that aims at the enemies spawn and point.  And it's against a wall so you can't get stabbed easily if you're careful.

But always remember.  Just like normal Aussies, they're not accepted everywhere.
