So, what do you guys think?
I just finished my free trial (around 3 rounds) and I've gotta say it's pretty good. I really hated BF:BC but this feels a lot better. I liked BF1942, liked BF:Vietnam, BF2 was alright but buggy, and BF2142 was awesome but still - buggy.
This game feels different but not in a bad way like BF:BC did. Does it feel like Battlefield? Yes, a lot more than BFH, and enough to call itself Battlefield imo. The classes seem good, although rifleman seems a bit pointless to me, as sniper can fill in his role fairly easily. Infantry and Scout are great though.I have only gotten to play Wake Island, and although it feels a bit empty, once you find a fight it's great. You can also see all of the way across the map! Finally a draw distance long enough to make a large open map work! Not that I have killed someone that far away, but I have killed someone that I wouldn't have been able to see in BF2.
The controls are a bit wierd, and there doesn't seem to be a setting that is more like other console shooters. Not game-breaking, nowhere near, but it will take a bit of getting used to. It feels pretty responsive, there is a fairly large delay between firing and hits registering but I'm 90% sure that's because I am playing on American servers. The hits still register, and even when long range sniping it feels reasonably fluid. One thing I've noticed is that there are so many terrible people in it. Seriously, within the first 5 minutes of playing I had seen 3 enemies - and melee killed them all with my trusty katana. I also managed to get a bayonett kill, but not a wrench kill because he turned around so I shot him in the face. Even then, on my last round I got 13 kills 1 death - 1 death from going rifleman, then I went infantry and got 10 kills, then picked up a scout kit and got 3 more before we won. lol?
The game looks good, but it's really hard to see distant things, mainly (if not completely) because of the TV I am playing it on. You can see the individual pixels if you sit less than like a meter away. from the table (maybe 2 metres from the TV) I'm sure the graphics would be better if I took my PS3 upstairs onto the better TV, but even Killzone didn't make me do that. If i had people over I would, but otherwise, no. Sound is good I guess, animations flow, the presentation seems pretty good as a whole.
Overall, this game is good. And I mean real good, not like Killzone "good". For $15 USD it's a bargain. I will almost definitely be buying it. I can afford to lose $25(ish). Have other people played it? If so, what do you think of it?

I thought BF 1943 was going to be free? Or is that only for PC .

Battlefield Heroes is free. Battlefield 1943 is just a remake of Battlefield 1942 with up-to-date engine, rite?
....I must admit i am intrigued. I loved the Battlefield series so far.

Yeah, BF 1943 is 1942 put into the Bad Company engine. I want it... but I DON'T want to pay 15.99 for the game. It ships with like, 3 or 4 maps, and is basic stuff. It looks fun, but I'd rather spend 16 bucks on a good game on sale on steam or something.

It's a much better game than many "AAA" games. I've been dissapointed with so many $100 games and this one rocky up as $25 and it beats the crap out of most of them.
And it's not the same as 1942. 3 classes, infinite ammo, regenarating health, you could say it's a noob-ified version, but that doesn't mean its not fun. The classes work, the ammo works, the health works, and the tanks are less op because of the 3 class system, the close combat class gets a rocket launcher, scout gets detpacks and infantry gets rifle grenades (im not sure if those damage tanks).
What I really want is BF3. BF2 but made on an engine more stable than a treehouse build by a pack of rabid dogs. Plus, make sniping moore valuable like 2142 did, and make the vehicles less op like 2142 did. And for the love of god, remove the anti-tank class and give the rocket launcher to a class that actually works.

I liked BF2142, but why oh why did they combine the medic and the assault trooper classes. They combined to form the most point whoring OP class in the game hands down.
Plus the Voss was just...just awfully awfully spray tastic.

So many things in 2142 (and BF2) make me rage so hard.
I just played a game of 2142. Some of the things that made me want to break a babies jaw:
- Being teamkilled 6 times. I had 9 deaths. - 12 Knife kills were stolen from me because of the terrible reg. Melee in paticular is completely unreliable. - I headshotted the same guy 5 times. 2 hit. He didn't die. 2 body shots kills someone. - As soon as I uncloaked, the enemy walker I was planning on bombing turns a full 180 degrees and shoots me. It didn't see the rest of my team run right past. - My jeep going straight through 4 enemy players in a line, dealing no damage to any of them. - Being killed, then revived, then killed, then revived for a full 30 seconds. - unloading 2 clips of a pistol in to a fail-sniper's head only for him to turn around and kinfe me from 10 metres away. He didn't take any damage. - Getting a 9 kill streak, then being on 7 health for a minute next to 4 medics, then eventually getting killed by a stray mg bullet. I'm playing on a fresh account, and I haven't gotten the 10 kill streak badge yet. I have gotten 8- 9 kill streaks often though, and then put in a similar situation.
All of this, and I had 8 ping. Eight fucking ping. None of the teamkillers seemed to think that it was a problem that they caused two thirds of my deaths. BF2(142) has the worst coding/reg/everything I've seen in a game. Hands down. And I have played GoldenEye:Source (that has terrible reg too, no idea why)

I had some of the knife problems you talked about, and sometimes the headshot hitbox was sub par, but I've never heard of those other problems

Putting the Type 5 in the game makes me rage. Will not play.
