TLDR: Not that I've heard anything about this, but it seems to me like we might be set up for a nerf to how many points we earn per backstab. Do you feel the same, or am I only dreaming?- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Recently,
I complained about how much I disliked the new spy, how
ineffective I felt it was after the scout update. Apparently, the stab
radius has since been returned to what it was (or so I've heard) and
I've realized that the aerial- and stairstabs just require slightly
different timing. I eventually took the advice of many responses and
gave spy another chance.
HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP
Now that I've gotten used to the new controls, it's outlandish. I can't
flickstab or quickstab anymore, but I'm such a point hound now. I play
Badwater a lot, and have for a couple months made it on the MVP list
about third of the time. Seeing my name and "Spy" at the very top of
the list is not unheard of, but I've been at the top practically every
time since I got "calibrated" to the new controls.
Both yesterday and today, I made MVP on Badwater with 60+ points,
doubling or more the scores of the "lesser" MVPs (usually in the 25-30
point range). Just now, I played a game of Goldrush (I know the layout
but don't play much anymore) and landed 65 points on a ten-minute game
of first stage (though definitely they had some retarded heavies and I
got some very lucky medic kills, and these
were all pubs.)
In my opinion, we can probably expect to see a point nerf coming soon.
The class is fine - I feel like an effective class now*, rather than
just a kamikaze pilot aimed at ubered medics and sentry farms. I'm hoping,
if they do take us down to one point per backstab, that we can at least
still get two points for a sentry kill, engineer backstab, or charged
medic kill. Maybe a scout backstab, too, and pyro revolvering.
* I deny all claims that playing spy is no longer a creative and
strategic endeavor, contrary to what I may have said before. While the
class can definitely be played in an unimaginative way (perhaps more so
now), waiting in ambush or blowing up tele entries, it is wildly more
successful to play imaginatively and fluidly. More importantly: IT'S
STILL FUN.
