I'm just starting this to see what people think are the most powerful/least powerful classes and why.

Personally, I think the Demo is possibly the most potent class in the game right now.  He has two VERY potent weapons that, if used properly, can desimate left and right.  Yeah, if you get close to him, he's generally dead, but he's always got his bottle and potentially just off himself and his attacker with a well-placed grenade.

I think the weakest is probably the spy at this point.  Back in the day, about a year ago when TF2 came out, the spy was DEVASTATING.  Noone really knew to spy-check, maps were unknown, and the general capabilities of each class were pretty much left untapped and not entirely known by all.  This gave the spy free reign to stab away.  Now, if mess up as spy at all, everyone on the other team, provided communication is decent, knows what class you're disguised as, where you are, where you're heading and your underwear color.  That combined with shooting every single "ally" to see if they bleed and pyro's and heavies spewing ammo as if it grew on trees makes stealthy movement difficult.  Still a friggen' blast to play though.

"Power" is a sort of nebulous term in this game. Each class has a specific skill set and play style that makes him valuable to a team as a whole. A crafty spy has the power to single hit kill with a well aimed backstab, and can therefore eliminate the opposing team's most valuable player more easily than even a "powerful" demo or solly. Similarly, I've died countless times at the hands of un-hittable scouts, who jumped around me and killed me faster than I could have thought possible with point-blank scattergun shots.

There is no most powerful or weakest class in the game. It's about how you use them, not how much damage the class does in a head-to-head.

Well, I guess I don't mean "power" rather than "most potential to do what it's designed for." I.E. Demo - blow shat up, Spy - Stab people and destroy the enemy infrastructure.

Then by that way of thinking the spy is very good at what he does.  In fact every class does that, maybe try again?

Okay, maybe I meant most difficult to adapt your class against.  Bah! Forget it! I'm sorry I started this topic and axe the whole thing.
Yes, though, the whole game is VERY balanced.  Congrats to Valve.
