I'm putting together a new gaming rig, getting top notch future-proof technology, and I want it to run stable, cool, and safe.  And I realize I have little experience with the parts most integral to this.

Need recommendations for the following:

PSU - 1000W or better... I'm running a 790i ultra mobo, will have an OC'd 2.66 GHz quad-core, a 9800GX2 vid card (with the intention of buying a second for quad SLI once prices drop a bit), and high-performance drives, RAM, etc. The PC is gonna draw many many watts at full load before I even drop a second video card in, so I want a PSU that's gonna hold up.  Modular is preferable, and it needs at least 2 8-pin connectors for video cards

CPU heatsink/fan:  I've heard various zalman heatsink/fan combos recommended, as well as arctic cooling and xigmatek... I have no clue which ones actually cool better after reading various contradictory reviews.  Need to have a decent air-cooling solution that will allow me to push my proc as well as fit amongst the super-cramped chipset heatsinks on a 790i board.  I've never used anything other than a stock cooler and settings on any builds I've done before, but with a rig this fancy, I want to take it to the limit.

So... any recommendations?

If you want a modular power supply, the ultra X3 is really your only way.  http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2700093&CatId=2535  This is by far not the most expensive 1000w one but the only one that can be modular which I also like, you don't have millions of wires clogging up your airflow.  But you do have a extra box sitting around full of parts you will never need.  If I remember correctly the 790i has a 775 CPU slot on it.  I think http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2353734&CatId=493 would allow you to get your CPU to blow room temp, and control all of this from the outside.(external controls).  Mind you this is rather large and may not fit inside your case.  I did some more digging and the motherboard you seem to have has a problem with the chip bridge being close to the CPU.  I have no idea how that could be overlooked by the engineers. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2943299&CatId=1588  This is will give you basic air cooling and will help you gauge what size CPU fan you will need if this doesn't fit. Good luck, AIM is my name if you have questions.
