Why is one competitive and one not? What are the major differences? I've played both games and felt little difference although I know this is because I haven't played competitively or in a challenging environment. Still, why one and not the other?

1.6 takes more skill thus making it more competitive

source just looks nicer and is easier so competitive people stick with 1.6

From what I've seen/played 1.6 is less luck based than Source, but how does it take more skill? It played like the same game to me and just relied on spam/selective aiming for the win. I guess it does take more skill, but why is there almost NO competitive source?

The hitboxes in 1.6 are way smaller so the learning curve is steeper, also since 1.6 has been around for a long time the community for it is naturally more hard core

the hitboxes are not only larger in cs:s, but the netcode is more unstable causing the boxes to be more random (like in tf2) than the much more stable 1.6.  The change to cs:s was pretty much a superficial upgrade making it look prettier which real competitive players don't give two shits about.

But there are hardly any 1.6 servers.

I still dont get why dust2 is so popular, in comp and pub. I really dont like it, because it feels like a stalemate as soon as you start. I prefer assault (very hard as ct, but its still a good map) and train/militia (again, a bit difficult as ct, nowhere near assault though).

Dust2 is fairly balanced map wise to the teams whereas as you said, Assault and Train are very T sided. Doesn't make for a very competitive game if one side always wins. :/

Always wins? That's not tru

also usp and knife are the ONLY weapons woth using.

Only once you top the scoreboards using only knife, kevlar/helmet, silenced usp and flash/smokes will you be a TRUE NINJA.

Ive done this with my cousin, taking down ak sprayers with your knife is a little too funny.
