Call of Duty 4 (PC) - your opinions

Well, I've been meaning to get cod4 for a while, and I've got an eb games gift card that I want to use up, so it's pretty much decided. It's got a great metascore and zero punctuation gave it the thumbs up, but I've heard it's not as great for pc. True, false, crap? I've also been eyeing assasin's creed, but at the moment it's on or the other. Any input would be great. (Also, I'm fairly sure it's steam compatible, it comes in the regular game case and there's a long code in the front of the manual, any info would be nice).

its an every day shooter with a rank system... nothing really special about it from what i see.  the only reason i really like that game is cause i can get within the top 3 on the scoreboard with ONLY using my knife and being a sneaky little SOB.  Using the guns is boring :-/

Only thing that is crap is that they release the updates on console first...
2 months since last update on xbox, and tomo it's coming on pc (I think).
..anything else..? Bit hard to start playing as a n00b, but once you get to know the maps and techniques, you're good2go (kinda.. you'll still get owned alot, untill you've played it some months)

I really really liked the single player. Its short (around 6 hrs) but its intense nd exciting. The multiplayer is OK, one thing that drove me away and back to TF2 was the fact that I was getting killed by people with way better guns with laser sight etc, while all I had was a crappy Carbine or something. Plus theres like 20 maps and I don't have time to learn all of them. (maps are random, no veto)

All bad things aside, it IS a quality game if you're looking for a diff shooter, and the single player is EPIC.

i would defiantly recommend it for the consoles but i fail at aiming on the pc so i can't give a real "vouch" for it .its an awesome game though so if aiming not a problem and your computer is up for it then go for it

I bought it for the PC the other day, played through the singleplayer on hardcore reasonably quickly, but I though it was very good. The multiplayer does get a little tiresome, the rank system is really only a gimmick that helps to keep you hooked for the first few days.

I loved the singleplayer campain, one of the better FPS's I've played in a long time. Multiplayer I didn't like though, I couldn't see any teamplay, I didn't like the gamemodes or map layouts, and it really felt like your run-of-the-mill shooter.

My opinion?

Single player = EPIC. Extremely well done and challenging. Probably one of the best games I've ever played.

Multiplayer = epic fail. It is kind of fun at first, and the rank system is interesting enough. But the grenade and grenade launcher spam gets to be too much after a surprisingly short period of time. On some maps, you'll literally spawn, walk three steps and get taken out by a grenade someone randomly threw in your direction. Then you respawn, take three steps again and get killed by another random grenade.

Then after doing this like 3-4 times in a row you'll get lucky and actually get into the battle, only to walk around the corner and BAM, you get taken out by someone running around with a grenade launcher (and who almost all of the time will only use his grenade launcher).

It's not that I'm bad at multiplayer FPS, in fact that's what annoyed me so much with COD MP. It gets frustrating to be killed over and over again by randomness instead of being beaten by someone actually being better or faster than you.

It's one of the things I like so much about TF2... by and large, if you get killed by someone it's because they outshot you, out thought you, or out-strategized you.

By all means play COD for the single player, it is absolutely first rate. And who knows? You might even like the multi-player too... Just be prepared that at it's worst, you may keep getting killed over and over again by people who have "out-randomed" you.

The single player is pretty amazing.
The multiplayer doesnt interest me.
I would only get it if it was on sale, otherwise there are other games I would buy instead.

One magazine said this about the single player.
"Its basicly a prettied up version of "Whack a Mole", where the moles shoot back, with occasonal accuracy." They gave it a good score, though.

My thoughts:
    Single pretty nice.
    Multi depeneds on the server. Many servers forbid the use of grenade launchers and Martydom (drop nade when killed). And the game mode. If you play Search and Destroy (think bombing maps from CS) you only get one life, so people play a bit smarter.
