I've been thinking about Bonk and its uses lately, and it may not be totally useless. It allows the scout to;
  • Work with others to take out a sentry without the use of an uber
  • Get past or possibly fake out sticky traps
  • Get behind the enemy team to allow for flanking or possibly an easier shot at the medic or for back capping
  • Stalling an uber by bonking then strafing around them to prevent their movement
The only cost is, however, losing the pistol which takes away long ranged irritation and killing power. I'm not saying the drink should always be used, or that both scouts should be using it, but it could stand to be equipped in some situations.

I was wondering what some of the more competitively inclined people thought of this.

When I use it, I use it to distract ubers and the like. Nobody can help not shooting a Bonked scout.

I had it on one time no idea why) in a pug, but ended up saving the round for my team. We were holding last point and they came in with kritz, our medic had abut 85% uber. He managed to get behind them, and I used it and stalled the point wth bonk. He came up behind, ubersawed one of them and then ubered me and we stalled until our soldiers and demo respawed. It was pretty cool, and I even managed to bat their medic dead.

I use bonk on maps that aren't terribly open.  Great for getting behind the front lines to pick off some of the weaker classes, and then I circle around and try to take out Medics and such.

I think the Bonk would be useful if it wasn't for the slowdown

Yeah, if you come across and enemy while in the slow stage, you're pretty much dead unless they were injured/distracted.

If you go forward while rapidly alternating the two sidesteps, you can get your speed back up near it's max. I'd be able to get hard data if there was a non-irritating way to measure velocity in the source engine.

It's dumb that you have to use an exploit to make a weapon useful. In addition, even with the exploit, you are restricted. i.e., you can't look and go forward, etc

I've been using the BONK! lately in the pugs and it works out pretty well sometimes.
