Guys, as a bid of a foreword, I really don't want this thread to result into mindless flaming. If you have an opinion, I'd love to hear it, but I don't want to see this thread go to crap because 2 people who disagree with each other can't think of a better way to work it out than taking stabs at each other in an off-topic thread.

I am seriously considering getting a console, specifically the PS3 Slim. In my opinion, sony as a company and the PS3 greatly, greatly outweighs Microsoft and the Xbox. The only real things 360 has goings for it are games and netflix, which I don't get because I'm Canadian. I understand that I will be missing out on Fable and Halo, as well as Gears/Battlestation games and etc..(I literally went through all the exclusives for both consoles), but the PS3 has BaSiCaLlY the same titles, and hey, also some good exclusives like Infamous and Killzone 2.

I think the PS3 is head and shoulders over the Xbox because Sony is a company that still cares about its consumers. Microsoft is infamous for totally bullshitting their buyers, stealing their money at every opportunity and generally not giving a shit. And all the little things about the PS3 like it crashing 10x less than the Xbox really add up to major points for Sony.

So as you can see I am pretty much sold on the Xbox over the PS3, but if anyone has something to add to the Xbox argument I would love to hear it.

Now, I am seriously concerned that I will not like gaming on a console coming from being a proud PC owner since the originial Xbox.

I keep seeing things like console owners being charged for DLC when Pc gamers get it for free.

Or console owners getting the same stuff months and months later.

Another point is the controller. There's only so much accuracy you can have with it. And there just isn't that much space, compared to a keyboard. In games like 1943 I'm seeing buttons being re-used which is confusing. Now this is bad for single players games obviously, because of the lack of buttons. But what about multiplayer? Competetive gaming couldn't really happen at all, could it? 1. It would be just too hard to organize. 2. How many people have mics on console anyway? Also will I be able to play with my friends just as easily as with steam? What's the PS Community like?

So ATM the only advantage to getting a console is for

A. Garranteed 30 FPS.

B. Exclusives.

How good does stuff look on PS3 anyway. I'm guessing there is a hell of a lot of killed potential. And also stuff like recording gameplay woud be pretty difficult.

On the flipside, the downgrades to playing on PC are:

Smaller screen generally.

Much more expensive to maintain.

Hells no.
PC>Any console.
I own PC, 360, PS3, and a Wii.
And I actually play them as frequently in that order. Essentially everybody on 360 has mics. I rarely come across people on PS3 with a mic. Occasionally somebody in WarHawk will have a mic, but not very often.
With PC gaming, provided you build a capable PC, there are much better graphics, much more immersive of a community. More clans, better clans, higher skill levels. But PCs tend to get less games too. Which is the main reason I own any consoles. I only really have a PS3 because I'm waiting for God Of War 3 and I have a 360 just because it's a fantastic fucking console, everything about it is pretty much perfect (ps3 really sucks imo).

As for controllers, I fucking hate the PS3 controller. The layout is crap. The PS3 is just a lazy console in general, the XMB (the ps3's interface) is crap, Sony basically ripped it from the PSP and put it on the PS3. Navigating it is annoying. The friends list interface sucks. Yes you can play with your friends, its not too difficult I just find using the XMB tedious and annoying (plus the in game xmb lags like hell). Honestly if you're going to get any console I'd have to recommend a 360. Everything about it destroys the ps3. Interface, controller, Xbox live. Anybody who bitches about paying for xbox live is retarded, it's less than $5 a month. and it blows the psn out of the water in terms of service and updates.

If you're going to buy one or the other I would honestly buy a PC if you don't already own one. For one there is a much (much) larger library of games and apps available for you on PC, and a lot of them you can get for free. You can plug in controllers for games if you want to, including other cool shit like joysticks and racing wheels (with footpedals of course!!)

What's not to love about that?

@delti Wow, really? I suppose I can't call you bias at all if you own and use both. Perhaps you are right that 360 has better features, but I would say PS3 definitely has better value for money.

@Nekped If I were to buy 300 bucks worth of PC upgrades, that would be great. Perhaps I would be on par with the PS3 GRAPHICS-wise. But the PS3 would outlive that setup by years and years.

I honestly don't know if you were being sarcastic or not, but I just prefer 360. Ps3 does have some good features though (doesn't break haha) and Fat Princess is a fun fucking game.

Lol sorry, by saying 'more value for money' I wasn't just saying PS3 is better. I literally meant, the PS3 is cheaper, and Multiplayer is free, and because they are very similar consoles I would say money-wise the PS3 is preferrable.

You'd probably be able to find more reasonable arguments for the console elsewhere, but a disproportionate percentage of the posters here are heavily biased towards the PC over Consoles.

I'm a drooling fanboy raging sociopath in favor of the PC when it comes to the PC over the Consoles ... I think you're better off if I simply try to explain why.

I owned a Cube and a PS2 in the last generation ... and by the time the next generation came out I realized I was paying ten bucks more per game if I got it on a console, and that I was tired of the bickering and BS going on between the manufacturers and the associated fanboys.

What really killed it for me was this generations lack of backward compatibility ... and the disregard shown the PC gamer, even by Microsoft. I don't want to dump my money into a manufactured and closed off industry that is almost impregnable to imaginative upstarts due to arbitrary licensing costs for a system.

That's my take, and why I've taken a solemn vow not to partake of this generation (DS doesn't count).

Up until a few years ago, I was purely a console gamer and the largest argument for why I did that is the social environment.

Sure computer games have great communities and all that, but amongst my real life friends, outside the ones who play WoW, not a single one games on the computer. This versus something like xbox live, which I bet over half the guys I know have. Sure I'd rather play computer games, and rather use a mouse and keyboard, but the fact remains that sometimes there is nothing more fun that sitting with your friends in a room yelling at each other while playing games together, something you really can't get on a computer sans LAN Paries and such.

With that said, I own a 360 and Wii, and although I can't say anything about the PS3 firsthand other than a few experiences with it, I've never been a big fan of Sony systems. Pretty much all their exclusives except for Ratchet and Clank really don't appeal to me, and I just dislike their controllers and interface and all that. If I had only one console from this generation, it would definitely be the 360.

I suppose I'm really just saying it's a preference thing, and consoles have their place, but overall I'll always lean towards a PC just because of it's overall diversity and utility.

Basically:
If you like fps's...get a pc
If you like free world games (GTA, saints row, etc. etc.) get either,although I enjoy them on console more
If you like racing games....get a console
If you like fighting games...get a console
If you like sports games...get a console
If you like third person shooters (Dead space/assasin's creed?)...get a console
If you like mmorpg's...get a pc

IMO a pc is more value for the money, but if you can get "free" or cheap xbox games, that's cool too.

Note: You can play a lot of 360 games on PC, it just wont play as well.

I want to raise a red flag on this: all racing games and third-person shooters (including the ones unnowned mentioned) that are worth playing have and will be ported to the PC platform. After I realized my rig had the beef to play my favorite racing titles like the Burnout series and Codemasters games my 360 has been collecting dust ever since. Third-person shooters also provide an added bonus when played on PC because you can aim with a mouse if you prefer.

As far as consoles go: I play Wii much more frequently than anything else. I'm contemplating buying the Metroid Prime trilogy because I never got to play them on Gamecube.
