What do you guys think? I often see guys setting up sentries and teles in the enemy sewers. Sure its a quick way to move your team up to the frontlines, but the enemy can pretty much prevent you from leaving the staircase with a soldier and a couple demos. Sometimes I guess it's a good way to distract them from your own frontal assault. Unfortunately, if they push back your frontal assault then they can pretty much cut you apart in the sewers with nades and stickies. So what do you think?

I put a teleport down there sometimes, but a full blown sentry isn't really worth it I don't think. It's all about adapting though so you gotta go with the flow.

control of almost any part of 2fort is worth it, provided that it doesn't require incredible amounts of resources to maintain.  that, i think, is the problem; maintaining a presence in the enemy sewers generally requires too many people to be a viable strategy for long.

It's incredibly difficult to take an enemy base through the sewers on 2fort, provided you're playing against a decent team. It is excellent as a distraction, or a place to throw up a teleporter exit, but if your team only has one engie he's better protecting the base. A mini-base in the sewer can be taken out by a single medic combo.

Unless they have a sniper who is completely shutting you down, or your team can't muster past the bridge (in which case you probably won't make it far in the base either ) going through the sewers is really no different than the bridge. Just another choke point to get through, still leaving you to have to go through the ramp room. If the engies have the base covered already, assault wise on a small map like 2 fort, another medic would help more than letting people trickle in from the sewers.

Its quite unfortunate when you get blasted into the water area but some explosive, then the enemy team has set up sentries in both sewers, i'll tell you that.

Yes this is a very good analysis of that strategy.
In addition I would argue that the benefit of being able to set it up for even 10 minutes with just an engineer and maybe a soldier would provide an excellent distraction as it would take a hanfull of the enemies guys to take down a level 3 SG, an engie and a soldier. So as they go to take down the mini-sewer base, some scouts/demos/soldiers can enter through the upstairs battlements to work on getting their flag.

In a 12v12 match with 3 engies, yes. It's worth it to control THEIR sewers.

It's also worth it to blow up any engies trying to control your sewers.

One exception: if the enemy team ends up with 3 engies building a sentry farm in the sewers, just leave them. You have a better chance of winning a 12v10 without the sewers than a 12v12 with the sewers.

The way I look at it, is if they fall/jump in the water, they only have two ways to go, enemy sewers or friendly sewers. Cut off the friendly side, they have a good chance of running into death. However, I would only recommend this with 3 engies, or 2 with a healthy set of other defense.

Sewers are a waste of time, and I don't ever bother going down there anymore unless I have to jump into the water for evasion or occasionally as a spy.

The upstairs exit is in such a bad spot that you barely gain anything by being there.  The only reason I can see to mess with it is in a 24 man server just to shake things up if the round has gotten stagnant. (oh wait, we're talking about 2fort, so it's almost always stagnant.

Easy win for almost all 2fort rounds is get 3 decent engies and a pyro, and send everyone else for the intel.  Course that is if you actually want to win.  Otherwise, dm to your hearts content till the map changes.
