It's hardly fancy, just really high-quality cardboard and construction paper.
I cut out 90 paper chip pieces (not including the numerous long rectangles, and associated hexagons I made to be used as towers and walls for my rook variant to build), wrote letters on them with a sharpie, and made a giant hexagonal grid on the big slab of super-cardboard. Once done I decorated the board a bit with colored pencils to make it a little bit interesting to look at other than the whole giant hexagonal grid factor. To be honest, I didn't do it completely on my own. I had alot of help with planning out the lines for the board with my dad; who used to have a super-precise drafting job.
I made it a few years back, and I have yet to be able to fully test it. Still, with 7 different pieces, all variants of normal chess pieces (two types of pawns), 2/3/4/6 players, and a truly unique teaming system should there be a full group of 6...the thing is pretty ambicious.
Just a note: If you rip me off and go make this commercially, I will find you, and I will personally flip you off so much that you start to become insecure. Then I'll sue you, since it's copy-righted.

Either we just found out your real name and address or someone already beat you to it

Most fancy thing I think I've done is jump forward rolled through a massive bonfire. My clothes were wet so I didn't catch fire
