Since i only just got my Orange Box back after losing it, seeing the new Demoman weapons and trying them out, i've decided to write up on this. Are you a Demoknight, or a Traditional Demoman?
Demoknight.
Grenade Launcher/ChargeTarge/Eyelander
This paticular new type of Demomen (which i dub "Demoknights") are ChargeTarge/Eyelander combo Demos that barely ever using their Grenade Launchers. I don't find this tactic very reliable, but i do have a couple of tips.
Rule 1. Try not to chop their heads of all the time, weaken them with the Nade Launcher, then charge and chop. Repeat until 8 heads and you're a total killing machine.
Rule 2. For god's sake,
DON'T TRY TO TAKE DOWN A SNIPER OR PYRO WHILE BEING A DEMOKNIGHT. For 2 reasons, A Sniper seeing you just running at him? He'll snipe your head off. Pyros? W+M1 Pyros? I do not need to explain why. However, the Targe can be useful here in confusing the Sniper in where your going and a escape tool from Pyros.
Rule 3. If you're out of Nade Ammo, try and ambush them like a Pyro or Spy. Make huge use of hiding spots when you're a Demoknight.
Rule 4. Remember, the Targe also gives you resistance to fire and explosive damage. Along with huge melee range of the Eyelander, it
can sometimes be useful against Backburner Pyros.
Rule 5. Do not attempt to charge Heavies unless they are distracted by other
teammates or you know they are very weak. The Heavy's Minigun fire is
very effective at close range, and if they have Natascha
equipped, you will effectively be slowed to a stand still.
Traditional, yet updated Demoman.
Scottish Resitance/Sticky Launcher along with Nade Launcher / Eyelander or Bottle
The Tradtional type of Demo is still here, along with a new toy, the Scottish Resitance.
Some tips of using the SR.
Rule 1. Remember, you don't have to detonate all of these at once, 8 should be nearly 1200 damage or over it, so try and keep them in small groups so you can blow em' up one group at a time. 4 groups of 4 stickies are especially effective. Also, this makes the SR a very effective weapon at defending tunnels.
Rule 2. While the SR does require the user to be looking in the general
direction of the bombs they set, they do not have to be looking
directly AT the bombs in question. Even if you don't have a direct
line-of-sight to your bombs, you can still detonate them, no-matter
where you are on the map, provided you turn to look in the general
direction of your trap(s). This can prove invaluable if someone begins
capturing a Control Point or takes your intelligence while you're busy
chasing down an opponent or otherwise pre-occupied elsewhere.
Rule 3. While you can't detonate the bombs all at once, you can blow em' up in rapid succesion by holding the right mouse button (or whatever you've binded the secondary ability button to) and "swinging" your view across em'.
My selection is mixed, although i don't really use the Targe that much.
I'm mainly a Nade/SR/Eyelander Demo.
Which is your selection?
