So, you think, pyros?  Yeah, pyros.  How do you juggle these guys?  I hit two feet to the right of one and he flies halfway across the map, I get a direct hit on his feet and he doesn't even pause.  Huh?

And demomen.  Now that anyone with eyes and fingers is capable of using midair stickies, what are soldiers supposed to do?  Can't be rocket jumping around every single time you see a demoman, and since stickies are so easy to use at medium range plus deal as much with splash damage as a rocket does with a direct hit, how do you do anything in a head-on fight?

usually when i fight demo men one on one it just turns into a mind game i usually dodge until they have to reload then i unload on them, aim is as allways paramount

pyros how ever are a problem, there is alot of pyro spam on some of the servers i play on and the best i can usually do is just stay the hell away

You fire faster than a Demo, and the Demo has lower HP. It's all a matter of planting two rockets on him and if he isn't dead then you take out your Shotty. Don't try to run from a demoman if you're not being buffed by a medic... You'll just die. Don't expect to win against a Demo every time, especially if you're fighting from around a corner. Demos are meant to have the advantage when firing indirectly from behind cover.

Pyros of course can pose a greater threat since you are in their prime threshold for pain. What you have to do is be alert of where you are and where you may get ambushed, so you can anticipate where the Pyro will try to get to you. Half the battle is shooting the Pyro before he gets the jump on you. Then, normally, it's cake. Don't expect to win every fight with a Pyro, they are meant to do large amounts of damage very quickly at point blank range.

Try to rocket jump (horizontally) around the demoman's sticky area, rocket jumping over the stickies is too damn risky, if you go too low, he can detonate them while your flying, and if you go to high, you might fall onto them, becuz if your horizonatlly jumping you shouldn't be going so high. Otherwise ignore them, shoot a rocket and retreat, eventually they'll get impatient(hope they don;t have an attention span) and move, that's when you come back and rocket jump to them, they're done for.

For pyros, either do a rocket jump to retreat backwards, or just try to find the sweet spot to hit so you can juggle them. Remeber at a distance they can't do too much damage, so if your having trouble juggling, just try not to get too close.

Re: Pyros

As a soldier you have an insanely powerful mid to long range weapon, the pyro has basically nothing until he gets close to you. It's your job to kill him before he gets close to you, if you don't you're probably gonna die, and rightly so.

Pyros I see as freekills if they dont take me by surprise in close quarters or come in great numbers.
As you say, shooting their feet is a good tactic. Yes, it can be a bit unpredictable to know where they are going to fly.
I dont try to guess where they are going to fly before they are flying. I shoot, study their trajectory and then quickly shoot a rocket where they are going to land.

Demos I find harder to kill.  Their pipes is faster than your rockets and just one direct hit with a pipe is enough to kill you. I usually try to take them by surprise, or if that doesnt work I try to rocket jump so that I fly exactly over their heads. From there I shoot rockets at them. Rememer that it is very risky and hard for them to kill you there.
If they miss you with their pipes and stickies those will fall back to the ground and risk hurting them. Also it is quite hard to hit someone who is above your head.

It's not insanely powerful... when the drop-off damage starts, it's pretty much nothing, and it's so slow that it's pretty much worthless at long range.  Splash damage reduces the damage by about half, and it only does a bit over 100 with a direct hit to begin with.  Never overestimate the class you're trying to give advice for.

Playing soldier for a change, I feel a little better to say what I found.

Pyros are easy, as long as they don't get the jump on you.  If they do, try to remain calm, and rocket jump. The splash damage may kill the pyro, if not, fire another from your advantageous aerial position. You're likely to perish from falling/ afterburn damage, but that's what you get if a pyro ambushes you. Avoid it.

If he's running up to you, aim at their feet. If aimed correctly, he'll fly up, not back. Practice and trial and error allows you to find this spoy. Use this time to lay another rocket down in quick succession, fragging him. If he flies back- so what? He's no longer a threat, as pyros need to draw in close to you, requiring them to walk into your kill zone, close to mid range. Continue on, and kill him if he dares cross your path again.

Demos are a real threat. Their splash damage is deadly, and their stickies hurt. Plus they excel at the same range as you, without the damage falloff and are the best at indirect shelling. If you can, ambush them, especially if one is blocking a vital chokepoint.  Use height to your advantage, even if it's just a slightly higher ledge. Go for pyro killing tactics, but take extra care- pipes hurt. See one incoming? Dodge. See stickies? Get in close to him, dodging what you can. Don't underestimate stickies- never try to cross them when a demo is present. If one sticky is visible, bet your bottom dollar another 7 await you. Play smart. Play safe. Play to pwn.

This makes an interesting read on demos vs soldiers
