Disabling items from your server entirely

Here is how to disable items by patching your server. It is also possible to do this via Sourcemod, but this pretty much disables the things entirely.

You will need a hex editor (a good, free one is XVI32). Once you have that, go to /orangebox/tf/bin/ and back up your server.dll (Windows) or server_i486.so (Linux), and open them in your hex editor.

Now, search for the following two strings: STEAMREMOTESTORAGE and STEAMGAMESERVERITEMS. At the start of these, select the hex-view and write 0x00 to the start of these strings, and save.

When you start the server, the loadout will not work anymore.

I wrote this because I'm bored, and also because I'm sick of OMG U HAVE HATS? EPIC WIN XDDDDDDDDD. Valve needs to get their act together and add a tf_enable_items or something as a Convar.

You can disable items in Tournament Mode with the newest update.  I don't think it works outside of this mode yet.
