I like playing as a scout, but it seems the scout has little to no purpose on Dustbowl. On the offense, the scout doesnt seem to stand a chance. I'm constantly blasted to pieces by the many rockets/nades/stickies/minigun bullets/sniper bullets/sentry guns; its like hurling yourself against a brick wall. By the time I reach the point to capture it, all resistance has been eliminated and there are other classes, like soldiers, there with me, making me wonder if i should have just played as a heavier combat class. What are some tips for playing as a scout on Dustbowl?

Scouts are good at making the quick rush into the 2nd point. That's all that comes to mind, however. I have problems playing scout on dustbowl as well.

But mainly, you just need your teammates to take out the sentry guns, and then you're pushing the enemy off their point. More of a support than a necessity.

I agree, but try playing as a Scout defensively.  You'll be amazed at what having a home field advantage does for a Scout.

i know that. defending the second point on Dustbowl stage 2 with a scout is wicked fun. but the scout is an "offensive" class, so what can he do on the offense in the same map :/

I find that after they cap the first point you can hide behind the building then come out and run around them and pretty much just be a nuisance. it slows them down. Fun but not that much of a necessity.

dont let those "offense" "defense" titles hang you up too much. The scout on defense is THE quick response class, and that's important. Someone screams that something is coming in or screwing with their sentry or what have you, you can flank it and shoot it before any other class could get in front of it for a toe to toe.

Dustbowl offense as a scout should really be played more defensively. Buzz around flanking points or non sentry covered areas and be annoying. You'll actually do a lot of good. Plus, once your offensive classes finally clear out the final point, you cap X2, which REALLY, REALLY helps on those mad house points like part 2 of section 2 and 3.

To reiterate what Cancermerchant said, all the Offense classes can be used well defensively and all the Defense classes can be used well offensively.

I have an idea:  This would only work in pubs, maybe, but if you can somehow sneak a Scout or two past the first control point to hide somewhere near the second CP, then you could instantly win the game after you captured the first point if the enemy didn't prepare to defend the second control point, which many players frequently do.

when defending point 2, i like to go scout and harass them as they come through point 1.  It's great fun and gets me a few kills but most importantly delays a few people as they look for you.

doesn't really work on stage. 3 though

I love the scout, and dustbowl isn't the best map for a scout but he is still quite good. The whole map you revolve around using stairs and any high ground to your advantage just keep high ground, jump over your enemies and blast em from above and behind.

Scouts need wide open spaces in order to function the best they can.  The narrow lanes between structures on Dustbowl don't offer that.
