Frozen and I have been thinking: I got a 1v5 ace, and today he was around 20:1 ratio as Spy, and neither of them were recorded So we got thinking, why not enable a constant SourceTV running on the public servers?

With SourceTV running, nothing could happen that couldn't be seen again, since a demo would be recorded for every map. We could add an extra slot so it can still be 12v12.

Not only would people be able to ask for a demo if something cool happened, it would have other useful side-effects, like proof of griefers/hackers.

Maybe every day the demo's from the servers could be put up to download, and after a week removed, so you would have the ability to download from the last 7 days.

The only problem I can see is we can't trash-talk chuckles anymore since he could watch demos. Thoughts?

I really like this idea.

Thing is, SourceTV has a tendency to lag when people use the in-game chat, and wouldn't be very useful because of this.

If we could resolve that problem, I'd be all for it.  Until then, it wouldn't be useful enough to warrant the storage space required.

I think it's a cool idea. I haven't used source tv much, if at all, but I'm sure it'd find it's place. Perhaps only on one or two servers though. Arena for sure.

I dont really see this as being a viable option.  Imagine how many demos there would be, and how long each one would last.  You seriously think that someone has the patience to go through them all, and upload them, then figure out which is which, so that you can have a record of your leetness?  I'm doubtful that this would be feasable.   Just record a demo yourself if you think you are a pubstar.

If the server was full 24/7, there would be about 48 demos in one day. And it's as simple is ftp'ing the demo into a public html directory, could be done automatically. But figure out which is which? What does that mean.

My idea was to have the whole thing automated, so people can just go to a demo's page and download the demo they want.

and how would you go about automating the instantaneous upload of each demo file?  I still think that someone is going to have to physically upload each one to an ftp... isn't that what we do for our matches if anyone wants it?

That's too much demo space and way too much work to ask of a sysadmin to deal with on a day-to-day basic. Here's a better idea.

In your class.cfg files, put this line in each...

stop;wait 10;record scout
stop;wait 10;record spy

etc. Every time you switch to that class it will over ride the old spy.dem file with the new one you are recording. If you do some miraculous shit, then you have the demo, rename it before you go play again and it'll save. Or if you only want to save the demo for one class because you use the class switching bind to refresh your cloak or something, then don't put the 'stop' command and leave it on the class you want to use.

Or you could just make a cfg called demo.cfg, put record miraculousshit in the file and in autoexec.cfg type

bind kphome "exec demo.cfg"

...and just remember to hit your Home key everytime you join a new server. Then you don't have to inconvenience the new sysadmin (Album) when everyone wants a damn SourceTV demo pulled out and uploaded. =P

That's the thing, guys, no human would need to be bugged to extract a demo. It would be like a cron job, every day the process logs into the servers through ftp (computer), gets a list of all *.dem files (computer), and then downloads them into some directory (computer). Then, it would add some template html or something to a webpage (compter), and bam, new demo's.

The demo's could be deleted after being copied (computer) to save space, and after 7 days the oldest ones get deleted (computer), to save space. This would all be on a different server, perhaps the new download server we need?

No human is involved in the process above. It would be a big project, and I could help, and I bet so could anybody else that knows how.

if I knew of an auto recording process for Tf2, I would totally use it, but everything I've come across hasn't worked that great.
