I read a post on this on the Valve Forums (I know...) and I actually like the idea. The Engie would get a ladder as an alt to teleporters. The switch is great enough, but the payoff would make it worth it. Thoughts?

Any other ideas?

I honstly cannot think of any other alternative weapons/items for the Engie other then some sort of remote-controlled weapon (Like the guidable nuke in Unreal Tournament or some sort of battlebot) that sacrifices movement for the Engie.

I would stick to teleporters. They would be a lot more use to your team in my opinion.

tf2 already has a guidable sentry. I like to call it a heavy + medic combo

What do the ladders do exactly? Or supply a link (I'm lazy, and don't feel like searching ).

The teleporter would be too much to give up for it imo, even though at times it could be usefull.
Scouts, demos and soldier can probably already get there. Medics can already heal them from below.

What, a horizontal ladder? Why the hell would you want a ladder in tf2?

As long as it is cheap, durable, and built very fast, I could definatly see a use for it. True, a teleporter would be more useful in most situations, but the same can be said about the medigun vs kritzkreig. You would generally need at least on engy on your team build a teleporter but I can definatly see the potential for a buildable ladder or bridge. Namley getting up onto places otherwise acessible only by rocket jump or double jump (like the roof in gravelpit point B). Because it is durable and built fast you can use it in situations where a normal teleporter would be destroyed before it can be set up.

To summarize:
Teleporters: Cross long distances.
Ladders: Used to get to unreachable areas or shortcuts.

Dustbowl Cap 3 disagrees.

Dispenser Jumps applies to almost every one of these situation. Left side (for defense) of Dustbowl last point, Crates in Turbine, etc...
