Its being an interesting time for TeamFortress2. Not only has Valve hinted at a possible Soldier Update but they also slapped us in the face hard with a highly likely and belivable new game mode ala King of the Hill, which should have been entered the game long ago I may add.
But no. I think a lot of people can agree with me that the bread and butter class of the game, Soldier, is perfectly alright and needs a complete redoing like he needs a hole in the head. Personally the next class update should be Engineer because really while all others have had the full treatment all Valve have done for our favorite Texan is given him the Level 3 upgrades for all and more things to be hit by. So, after a few hours sat down humming to myself (my days off are known for their ecentricity, I really need a hobby) Enjoy.

Shotgun- The Remington
Pistol- Electro Charger
Wrench- The Alamo

Sentry Gun- The Jackhammer
Dispenser- The Mule
Teleporter- No changes

Plus- Demoman Ideas!!
Grenade Launcher- Still putting ideas together for this.
Stickbomb Launcher- Caber Toss.
Bottle- Scotch.

THE ENGINEER UPDATE. Showing a faster paced, more offensive side of the engie. Once you've seen him blugeon to death a Demo/Medic Combo over the loss of one his buildings(The Alamo) or seen him leading the charge towards the enemy base from the cover of the Mule's wooden ramp, you'll never view him as a turtiling non-doer ever again.  

THE JACKHAMMER.
- The Simple Stuff.
Replaces Sentry Gun.
Takes 100 Metal to Build
Takes 10 seconds to build. 5 if beaten with Wrench.
Carries 75 bullets (Normal level1. Sentry carries around 44).

The Jackhammer is a Level one Sentry doing the same damage it normally would to anyone dumb enough to get in its path however,   you can't upgrade it further to any other levels. Whaaaaaa??? you say. So I'm stuck with this piece of junk at peashooting level. Why the hell would I choose this over the normal kind?
Well, get this. Not only does The Jackhammer have 3x the maximum targeting distance of a normal Sentry. Imagine you and an other engie setting up  Jackhammers near a final point on Granuary and it being able to shoot people coming out of the two gates. Overpowered? Heck no. Having the same dismal health of a normal Level 1 Sentry you're going to still have a tough time against Snipers, Ambassodor Spies, Soldiers, Demomen, Pistol carriers and Remington Engineers. Ubercharging Snipers just became a valid tactic.
And finally, has you ever felt burdened to stay in one area by your buildings even though your fellow team-mates are free to move around? Well the Mule fixed the dispenser problem but what about the other half, easy, simply hoist the Jackhammer onto your back, walk to where you want to put it and plop it down as you would choosing where to build it. The setback? Engie isn't no Heavy. Walking with the Jackhammer putsyou onto quite a loss of speed (Just slower then the Soldier) but no probs. The Jackhammer just keeps on firing near enough limitless which is why it carries a lot more ammo then its older brothers. And if you do happen to die it'll just rest its self down nicely on your corpse still firing until someone finally shoots it. All this is good too, as you can't use any weapons with it on your back. Better watch out for them pesky Spies then. They're going for the ultimate sap&stab and you can't do ANYTHING about it.

+Less Metal to build
+More Bullets
+A much longer Range
+Can move the gun without having to destroy it.

-The same Health and Rate of Fire as the Sentry Gun and you can't upgrade it.
-Largely damages your speed if carried.
-Can't shoot any other of your weapons if carried.

-Appearence
Picture a Level One Sentry. Make it smaller and the barrel much longer and chrome.

How about an update to the engineer that allows him to disable then rewire sentry guns and dispensers to make them change color and thus shoot at the team they were built for?  It could be a short range gun-like device that they use to shoot at the gun to disable it.  Then as they strike it with the wrench, it start to rewire to his side in a similar fashion to the upgrade.  Same thing for dispensers and teleporters but with these, instead of changing sides, they just injure those who use them.  Like you go up to the hacked dispenser and it starts lowering your hit points instead of increasing them. Teleporters would drop your hit points in larger percentage chunks.  Maybe the engy can upgrade that.  Like when he converts it, it is level one and takes off 25% of your hit points.  Level 2 takes off 50% and level 5 takes off 75%.

Another update to the engy would allow him to put a small tracked vehicle under his buildings but maybe he can only do one at a time.  So on a payload map, he can put a sentry on a tracked vehicle so that he can take it along with him as he helps push the cart.  He could have options to slave it to himself so it follows him or he can pull out the remote control and steer it but keep the range limited. The opposing engineer could hack it and rewire it to go back and kill the engineer that built it. hehe  So say you kill the engineer who built it, then while he is gone, you rewire it.  Now as he is running around the map, he has a personal terminator on his trail.  Many possibilities for this.  Maybe he runs back up to it and it kills him, or maybe it only happens as he comes within a certain distance.  This could also be done with regular sentries.  Like it kills normally but then the engy who built it approaches and the gun explodes killing him.  Wouldn't that be a biatch  haha.

With the Jackhammer, here's the changes I'd make:
Starts out just like a normal Level 1 Sentry just with a different look (possibly a tad more knockback though).
Can be upgraded for 100 metal (unless balance says otherwise).
Each upgrade increases range and knockback.
Level 1 is normal range and knockback.
Level 2 is double range and double knockback.
Level 3 is triple range and triple knockback.

Demoman needs something that shoots straight and long distance like other classes have.  Maybe just a rifle.  If not this, give him a anti-personal mine to use.  Only allow one active mine at a time per team, or maybe just make them very senistive to grenadea and rockets.  in other words, just a little jarring makes them go off.  So demomen and soldiers can disable them by shooting nades in their direction or into the room they are in.  near miss whould set them off.

Same for the Soldier.  Give him an M1 Rifle, with a bayonet that he can stab with by hitting mouse 2.  Make it as lethal as the spy knife.  I think this would be fairly easy to code.  Just take the hunter's rifle with no scope and skin it to look like an M1.  Then add a bayonet to the end and give it the same damage qualities as he spy's knife.  Make him thrust the gun forward with a mouse 2 click.
