Engineers are too good...

Hi everyone?

Seriously, I always crush everyone when I play as them. I use my dispenser to block doorways and then if a spy comes instead of destroying his sapper I just shoot him. I then have ample time to remove his sapper and shoot his dead body for fun. I got 18 kills with one sentry the other day, because nobody could destroy it without being killed first by me. This is on the PS3 by the way.

Sometimes, Heavy/Medics can be problematic, in which case I leave my sentry and circle around behind them  and shoot the Medic before he can fully heal the Heavy. In those cases I lose my gun sometimes, but then trhe Heavy is easy pickings in one or two shots because he's wounded.

Do other people use these same kinds of strategies?

I think it should take three hits with the wrench to remove a sapper. That would gives spies (and the rest of their team) more of a chance...

Hi there upinthe. Welcome to the forums.

Btw I play PC not on playstation but Im sure there are tons of servers where you simply cant do this. A good demoman or maybe soldier can always take out a sentry even without having a medic attached to them. But a good engineer with a well-placed sentry and a fast wrench can be a real pain in the ass.

Must agree... you've never been confronted with a capable demoman. Spies are, in most cases, a minor inconvenience to engineers. demomen and pyros (ubered) pose the real threads to sentries, as demomen are the only class able to attack from beyond the sentry's view. a good demoman, preferrably escorted by a soldier or pyro or ubered, can wreck a complete sentry farm in one attack wave.

Yeah, I find that as a Demoman I can destroy (Almost) any sentry gun placement with ease.  As other classes, I can too, but not anywhere near as easily as if I was a Demoman.

Any Spy will be able to take down your sentry if you're not watching it, or if you are dead.  So make sure you don't die by watching your back for Spies.

On PC, though, Engineers tend to be a underpowered unless they are creative enough, and with Engineer as my Second most played class, I know it can be tough.  I think your job as an Engineer, more than to make Sentries is to get Teleporters and if dispensers to your team, to allow for better movement and teamplay.

If he is behind the sentry which is facing the opposite direction he could manage to sap the sentry before it turns around and kills him. But this HotPocket rewarding action takes a skilled spy.
Otherwise if you just stab the engie near his turret, you are dead.

Hm, Engineer is far from being too good. I'm constantly rebuilding and dieing to thoes FRIGGIN soldiers and demomen.

Sounds like you need stiffer opponents. Believe me, you'd be lucky to get 4 kills per sentry on one of these 2Fort servers and against a coordinated attack, you'll get zero (but your sentry will pause them at a predictable location...that's what it's use is, not racking up kills). For me, the fun is in helping our attack by setting up forward teleporters and dispensers.

I don`t know what kind of spyes youve encountered on the PS3, but it sure isn`t me. ;-D
If I zap a sentry, and the Engie isn`t around, I`ll give it a couple of stabs with my knife, so that the engie doesn`t have time to smack my zapper. If the engie is alone with his sentry I go behind him, zap his sentry and backstabs the engie who almost always tries to save his sentry instead of checking his back.
 
So watch out for a Spy called mrKnall, mr Upinthe... he will cause you some more trouble.

I have to say, beeing a Spy against one sentry and one Engie is like a walk in the park.. Eeeezyyy! ;-D

Another story is a sentry guarded by a constantly moving Pyro... Much more trouble as Spy!

snipers are best when it comes to taking out a sentry/dispenser.  we use blindspots and angles to shoot them from far away. wihout u attacking us back
