Suprised nobody's said this already - Garry's mod now runs on the Source2 engine (the one that TF2/Portal/EP2 runs on) and includes content from EP2/Portal/TF2.

2fort looks terrible. I cant get people to stand up properly like i used to. Meh. now it seems off.

I been using the beta for a while but havent lately and thus have not noticed that the update went official.

Why? Not even that much is different.
Its mostly just added content and some minor interface redesigns.
Theres been some bugs but they have been fixed quite quickly by garry.

I'm know next to nothing about Garry's Mod (guess I should go to that forum) but it's used for building maps right? Saw something about it on Xplay or AOTS or something... I know it's very popular but that's it...

Does Garry's Mod make it easier to build maps or objects or something, is it a substitute for Hammer? I'd like to do more building but compared to 3dsMax, Hammer is confusing as hell...

You can't make maps with garrys mod.

It is more like a sandbox for the HL2 engine where you can spawn any models or entities and mess around with them and perform actions on them.

Make making requires the ability to create brushes which is something you can not do while playing the game, it must be done in worldeditor/hammer.

Is there another program for making maps other than Hammer? (Maybe worldeditor is the name... sorry sish, I'm not sure...). I can't remember the last version of Max i worked in, it's been a few years, but I've always wondered if I could create objects in Max and import them into Hammer to have that program apply programming stuff (physics and properties and whatnot)...

So Garry's Mod would allow me to create objects and characters that I can then use how? Import THOSE into Hammer?

Thanks for the info, this has been nagging me for a while and I've been too busy playing to "research" it, plus research sounds like work, and I'm allergic...

Not to mention that all MP servers went down when first released here's my list of reason...
  • The grass textures aren't anti aliased anymore making them look crappy at long/medium distances.
  • Loading screen actually lags if too many floating icons appear while downloading files.
  • Changes in the LUA broke ALOT of addons.
  • New Q menu looks bad -- opinion
  • More crashy

Garry's Mod is a sandbox modification of HL2. What it allows you to do it spawn models, ragdolls, vehicles, ect and manipulate them WITHIN the game. You can't export them to any outside programs with one exception...VMF Suite is an addon in development that when finished will allow the saving & loading of VMF's made in Hammer.
