Getting inside the Steam TF2F Group?

I realize I probably would not be allowed in the community clan with { } but I noticed people in the steam TF2F community Group without the curly braces, and I was wondering if getting in that steam group is something that needs to be voted on, or something along those lines.  Or do I need to have  {  }  to be in the steam group?

Anyone can join the TF2F Steam group as far as I'm aware.  It's a public group.  Heck, I'm in it.

There are three Steam groups associated with TF2F.

The "Team Fortress 2 Fort" group, the "Team Fortress 2 Fort Competitive" group, and the "Team Fortress 2 Fort Community Clan" group.
The Competitive and Community groups are by invite only (and therefore open only to Squares and Squgglies, respectively), but the Team Fortress 2 Fort group is public.

Please also note that there are no members in the Community group who do not have curly braces.
