Help me pick a college.... please!

Hey guys,

I'm planning on doing some international student exchange (I'm from Australia), probably to the States or Canada, and I have no idea how to gauge not only the quality of the schools, but the areas or even states that they're in. If anyone could bothered to check out this list of co-operative schools and let me know if any cry out as immediately shit or good I'd be forever in your debt.

I'm studying International Relations/Development studies but I'd be happy to just do filler subjects and maybe learn a language so I'm not overly fussed about their programmes, just the overall je nous se qua of the school and area as I said. Thanks in advance!

Coming from NZ I can't help with your choice of college, but I can say that it's spelt je ne sais quoi, my old french teacher would kick my ass if I didn't point it out.

I'm only familiar with a few of the US schools on that list, I can tell you that Clemson and USC (South Carolina, not SoCal) are both going to have a lot of drinking, attractive women, and football. Since they are in South Carolina though, you're going to see a lot of the typical American redneck. Which isn't necessarily bad, but I know a lot of people aren't really attracted to that.

One I'd recommend is Wisconsin at Madison, really awesome eclectic city with all kinds of cool stuff to do no matter what you are into. Two problems though, its cold as shit in the winter and the program is called "Teach Prac". I don't know what that means but I'm guessing maybe you can only do an education program there (which seems weird, you should look into it).

Thanks Doc. Yeah its a shame it doesn't seem my department supports exchange at Madison. I think I'm gonna go with UVic (CA), with Wisconsin Platteville and Western Washington as backups.

To be honest, the thought of rednecks did kinda put me off the SC choices which looked otherwise attractive. Though attractive women is a priority criterion, football and drinking not so much.. weed and music more my kinda thing. Seems like I coulda missed a good opportunity though, there's nothing more enjoyable than experiencing preconceptions turned on their head so it would kinda be nice to meet actual people from the south instead of the stereotype and all. Maybe I'll see if I can renege on my choices..

I suggest japan personally, and that one school gives a 100000 p/month subsidy, or 2.4 times how much I make working.
