OK, so I've been playing TF2 for about 12 months now... I’ve played under a few different accts, mostly medic until recently (i started playing offense on all-crit servers which pretty much reduced my skill on vanilla servers as an offensive class).  Anyway, I have a hard time knowing whether or not I'm doing a good job...

I'm consistently at or near the top of the list as far as points are concerned, but I also realize that's not always an accurate representation of who's playing well.
I usually average at least one or two ubers per spawn, sometimes more, but I like to be up front with the action and I'll often run into a streak where I'm killed repeatedly by some freaking pyro.
I heal who needs it, and try not to stick with a single player unless I’m close to an uber and know they can do some good with it.

But...

I'm on a losing team, as much as a winning team.
I'm trashed for losing an uber if it happens, ubering the wrong class or someone who’s out of ammo (to save my ass, and theirs), or hitting the uber a quarter a second after my target was ganked.
It's extraordinarily difficult to pay attention to other medics (what they're doing) in the heat of things, so...

How do I know that I'm paying the class well?

p.s. the first person to respond with "if you have to ask, you're not good" can save themselve's the time... I wrote it here first.

Spend some time on our servers, we can get to know you and how you play, then hopefully provide more tips.

I have the three servers listed on in the TF2 Game Servers section from this site added to my favs... I would love to play them, but they are often unpopulated.  I'm UTC-6 time zone... what time of day do those servers ususally fill up? (As I write this, the first two are empty, but the arena server has some action).

no, they don't, unless a crit rocket shows up... but I'm also the type of medic that will heal a collegue over commrade any day of the week... when I see a medic on fire or in the red, my beam is on him/her.  I keep my meds alive, and then tend to my offense.

If you're topping the scoreboard on decent pubs then you're a decent medic. That's not a hard and fast rule, but you've gotta be doing something right.

You'll end up on the losing team as often as the winning team because usually (not always but usually) a good medic won't make a team win. Not having a good medic can make a team lose, but your skill will rarely win the game for the team.

Come play in one of our saturday or sunday pickup games that happen at 2pm EST. Our pub servers are usually full in the evenings, from maybe 7 or 8 EST to 12 or 1am EST, more than that on weekends.

if people are dying around you and teams are fair and you are the only medic healing 11 other people don't be so hard on yourself for letting people die or wasting ubers. If someone complains at you for it then just change classes or go combat medic, or just tell them to stfu and play as carefully as you have to avoid dying and your whole team losing it's only healer.

all teams should have at least 1 in 6 medic classes, or more if the other team has lots of medics who aren't afraid to uber quickly after getting it which can be a good tactic.

There's too many variables to determine if you're a good Medic.  It's not all about healing and popping ubers, you got to have street smarts as well.  If you find yourself dying too many times while healing and your patient isn't even bothering to assist you, then you become a better Medic when you drop your patient and take on the threat on your own.  There are many small variations to gameplay that will affect your overall performance as that class. But if you're a player who's flat out refusing to heal other players in need of help when there is no threat around, then you're of much less use to your team.

As far as the game "TEAM Fortress 2" goes, the Medic class truly puts the "Team" in TF2.  And it's mostly due because he works in tandem with teammates, whereas others can operate well enough on their own, though will benefit from teamwork as well.

Skill as medic does not really show by how many points you have. A medic who sticks to one heavy the whole time and gets tons of assists is a bad medic, but medics who heal everyone and do not necessarily get assists all the time are better medics. You are meant to heal, not to get assists.

You know you're good anything at this game when you get accused of hacking.

So start using aim hacks with that medibeam.
