How the dickens do you do it?!

I've been lurking on these forums for a while and chip in with the occasional post and play on your servers every now and then (as I'm in Britain so timing is an issue) and I just want to know how the flip you lot manage to get so good?! I usually do alright(ish) on "normal" servers but tonight I was just getting destroyed again and again! Seriously, how do you lot cope with being so easily gibbed over and over again?! I take my hat off to you.

If you look at some of the daily server awards that display at the bottom of the site, you will quickly learn that many of us have no life, and can therefore play enough to do stuff like cap 50 points in one day. With that much play time, it's easy to get good

And some people here are just genetic freaks with insane reflexes.

Being the best player on any of our servers, I gratefully accept your compliment.  Thank you, and for that I shall spare you in the game... once.

I'd say if you want to get better you need to do a few simple things:

a) know the map insanely well.  know your environment, escape routes, shortcuts, alternative routes, etc... and know which direction enemies can attack you from at any point.

b) play 1 specific class A LOT.  if you're hopping classes you probably won't get to be really good at any of them.  stick to one class for awhile and hone your skills.

c) play by yourself.  sometimes it helps to play by yourself in a server (or 1on1).  get to know the map and/or get to know your rocketjumps/sticky jumps, and especially get to know where health packs are.

d) spectate those who are good.  watch someone who's better than you and see if you can glean a few tips from the way they play things out.  you might see something you've never used before and with practice, can use just as efficiently!

It's a cyclical thing...everyone here is good, so play with them more and get better, which means they get better...ad nauseam. Stick around for a bit and fight through the pain...I guarantee you'll never go back to a regular pub ever again. And if you do, you'll destroy them.

You have to learn and adapt in order to get better at the game.

The more willing you are to change how you approach a situation the more likely you'll in turn get better.

Like in sports, or at least tennis, you get better by playing with people who are better than you. The same is true for TF2, play with people who are better. If you own pubs, go to a clan server (like tf2f) with very skilled players. If you own clan servers that are a step up from pubs, join a competetive team. 

If you own other teams and if you find yourself the best team in the world, try to conquer something harder such as life, the universe, and everything.
