So I play on PS3 and am decent at spy, however, I can't really see a use for the friendly disguises. They don't shield you from sentries and when an enemy see you from far a away, they come over to kill you instead of just going along their way. I know that they have a use tho, so any help about this would be appreciated.

well I know one scenario:

You disguise as a friendly pyro, and a heavy is behind you. Turn around the corner and cloak. The heavy is expecting a pyro so he turns on his gun but doesn't see you. This is your opportunity to go behind him and backstab since he is really slow from turning his gun.

Aparenty they make you avoidable, like ifyou disguise as a heavy people wont fuck with you because your big, but in reality evryone aims for the heavy, kind of a pointlss thing

Disguise as a friendly pyro all the way until you get the near the battle front, this will make enemy spies ignore you, you can also disguise as a sniper while your sniper is respawning to scare off enemies, or make them panic so your partners can attack. Yeah that's really it, i mean, you can always have fun with friends and do dumb stuff. Example-4 medics and 4 "heavies" rush =D

- For setup time. Disguise as a powerful class such as a Heavy or Soldier to add to whatever Heavies/Soldiers you may already have. If possible, get one of your teammates to be a medic, and heal you. If you have a genuine heavy/medic combo as well, the other team will be frightened.

- For moving with your team. Generally a Pyro is the best disguise for this purpose, since it wards off enemy spies who might try to backstab the teammates you're moving with. Also, as long as there is no sentry gun, if an enemy sees you and tries to follow when you run, you can cloak. Since people will generally always believe your disguise if it's friendly, they will search around for whatever class you were, because they would have no idea you cloaked, and no idea that the RED Demoman that just came out is the same BLU Pyro they had just been chasing.

Friendly disguises are extremely useful. If the enemy doesn't think a spy is in the area, they won't get as Paranoid. They'll be far less aware if they see an enemy demo go off to the side instead of one of their teammates coming from your base.

An example is something I did to Octon yesterday; I was disguised as a friendly engineer on Badlands and he was a sniper camping our base. I ran towards him, dodged a shot and ducked behind a little enclosure and cloaked. He came up to where I had gone and didn't see the engie, but obviously thought I had gone off somewhere else instead of being cloaked right behind him. He didn't suspect that I had been a spy, so he turned his back and started focusing on some of my teammates who were in the other direction, which allowed me to decloak and get a backstab. I wouldn't have been able to do this had I been undisguised (he would've been alerted to a spy's presence, and probably wouldn't have turned his back like that) or an enemy disguise (which would've been entirely obvious coming out of my base)

the only thing i used it for is to disguise a an friendly class in setup so that enemies dont know a spy is around but the other ideas that people have nbeen saying sound good

I just generally use it as much as I can. If you're not behind the enemy lines, it's almost always a good thing to be disguised as a friendly whatever so that nobody will suspect you.

But hey, don't take my advice. I'm a horrible spy.

I can't disguise as friendly, dunno why. I even tried remapping the key. Push the button, nothing. Mash keyboard, nothing. Any idea why it's not working?

You have to bring out your cigarette case first, then press whatever button you mapped for friendly disguise. All of the disguises will then switch colors.
