Hello, everyone.  I am having a problem.  Normally, I play medic, but I find medic to be rather dull and I want to play a more exciting class well.  This is my favorite class to play, and I REALLY just want to be passable with it, but I have NEVER gotten over 5 points as a scout with a single life.  I have watched EvilDaedalus's video countless times and know it to heart, but I can't just seem to do well.  Have you guys have had the same problem, and have you broken through it?  Or is it a good idea for me to give up the ghost and go back to playing medic?  If I could become good with the scout, I believe it will really help my enjoyment of the game since I will have a class that is fast paced, fun, and rewarding to play and I won't die all of the time.  Thanks for reading and hopefully responding.

Sorry kid, but this part just isn't gonna happen.  The Scout is an Awesome class to play, but you'd better be prepared to die frequently.  It doesn't mean that you are bad, it's just the nature of the class.  You have the least amount of health out of all classes, and you will constantly be chasing health.  Rewarding?  Yes.  Fast Paced, and fun?  You-betcha!

How many hours do you have racked up by the way?

I think the Scout class requires the most work to become proficient.  (well, besides the Spy, but only freaks of nature are good with that class )

i too REALLY want to be good at scout, but have shit-tastic aim with the scattergun. i think all i can tell is stuff youve probably already heard, as for advice: dont plan on racking up kills all the time, thats not what scouts about. and dont expect to kill someone in one go. hit and run.
if you like the idea of the class i dont see why you should stop playing it. eventually you will get somewhat better

How good is your PC? I wouldn't bother playing Scout if you get less than 30fps at all times, as it's nearly impossible to aim properly with low fps. It's why I never play Scout, so if your PC sucks it may be for the same reason. Barring that, you'll have to rely on the Scout players here to advise you.

The thing to remember is to try not to get bloodthirsty.  By this, I mean don't chase EVERY possible kill.  That took me the longest to understand, and I still catch myself doing it.  Don't let Pyros bait you because that's just a bad situation waiting to happen.  Basically you have to out think and out maneuver all the other classes.

You will die a lot from rockets, flames, and stickies....trust me.  Just keep that in the back of your mind and don't let it get under your skin.

Try gradually lowering your sens. over time, that's what helped me (along with getting a new computer).

I've been slowly lowering my sens 0.5 at a time, and getting the hang of scout, started at 14.3 and I'm down to 12.3.

I notice a huge difference in my overall scout-ness when my ping is <50, as it is on all the {TF2F} servers. But if I head to, say, a random pub with a ping of around 80 or 90, I'm much better off playing something else.

My computer is pretty terrible, I get about 20FPS with all settings on minimum. Also, my mouse/keyboard setup is pretty modest. But I still have a lot of fun, so I'm not going to use it as an excuse.

I think it's also important to remember your tasks and strategies as a scout. IE in kart maps, scouts are there to inch the kart forward a little bit at a time. That usually means lots of dying and not so much killing, but that's your job as a scout.

Not that say that scouts can't DM well vs the other classes,  but if you're looking for a good DM class, there are better alternatives out there.

I usually ping anywhere between 30-90ms.  I don't really notice when I get up to 90ish though.  Anything over that and is gets tough.  I have a decent machine too, which helps fps.

-eVGA Crosshair mobo
-AMD X2 6400 dual core
-2GB memory
-2x nVidia 9600GT-KO (sli)

...the only thing that sucks about playing scout is that there are maps that just don't work too well *cough* DUSTBOWL *cough*  Which sucks when you really only have one main class, but hey, I like medic too so when I can't play scout I play medic.

Keep in mind that sometimes there are flat areas where you won't notice much improvement in your performance. This could be seen as your personal skill ceiling, and your job is to keep pushing it. You may die a lot at the moment and feel like you are not improving but the important question is: Are you learning from your mistakes? If not try analyzing how and why you died and how you may have avoided dying or come out on top. The best way to get better is to go through that thought process continuously and you will start making better decisions and ultimately outplay your opponents.

As said fps can hinder your effectiveness as a scout but I have notoriously bad fps lag and I main sniper. I am still able to remain competitive against other snipers and players simply because I outplay them. If you really like scout I'd suggest to keep at it even with bad hardware especially if it's the class you truly enjoy. Plus if you can dominate other scouts with bad fps imagine what you could do if you had an upgrade. . .
