Idea: Turret Defence

Has any one play TD on starcraft? I was thinking it would be cool if some one made a 3D turret defence mod for source based games. It could use the different lvls of turrets from TF2 and the hopper mines and turrets from Half-Life. Metal could be used as a currency and you would probably play as the engineer.

Also it would be cool if you could buy stationary characters that shoot at monster that run the gauntlet.

this wouldn't work because the first person perspective would be too strange for a TD...that stuff only worked with Starcraft and Warcraft.

could be coll. maybe a mod for payload maps that replaces the cart with waves of blu people? and you play as  red engineers and you can build multiple sentries. i think that would be cool.

I remember a level like this on frozen throne where you had to stop some insane humans from destroying the gate that the blood elves were trying to get to outland through.  I loved it, and the last run was pandas which was awesome.  I could see some sort of game where there are SGs that don't build unless you hit them with something.  Each engineer would get two dispensers and teleporters he could put up.  Every gun would need lots of upkeep(ammo), there would have to be a limit to 12 people per game.

This actually seems like a great idea, but there are factors to consider:

-Do you want Artificial Intelligence? If you do, TF2 bots wont do. You would probably need to use Garry's Mod.

-Do we need to make custom maps for this to work? Maybe making a larger map for more players and metal supply box placement will be crucial.
 
-All of the custom skins will have to be made from your ideas: Gordon, maybe some zombie turrets, etc.

-What are you defending?

Some coding will need to be done, like counting the amount of people who died and also you have to make the AI be able to detect other AIs.

Is everyone forgetting the scenes in HL2:Ep2 where you get to defend yourself using a small set of turrets from a massive Combine assault? You run around, repositioning the turrets with the g-gun and keeping them standing.

Something like that, with more turret types, the ability to buy them from a vending machine or similar - it would rock, I think! Just make the player invulnerable, and the "Combine" (or whatever) heading for some other objective...
