Hey guys, I have a couple questions. I've played about 15 hours total, and still only average a kill-death ratio of 1-3. I've been trying to choose whatever class the team needs (if no offense, pick soldier, pick medic/demo as needed, etc.)

How would you guys recommend getting better? Playing lots of pubs? Focusing on one class at a time?

Thanks in advance.

First off, you need to realize that 15 hours is practically nothing. I have nearly 90 hours as Spy alone, and that's not nearly as many as some.

A one to three k-d ratio with that little play time is actually quite good. I would recommend playing on the TF2F servers (on this website, the top right corner, you should see "TF2 Game Servers", just copy the IP addresses, go to Favorites on your server browser in game, paste the IP's, and then add them to your favorites), these servers have far more communication and skilled players than you will find in most servers, and you will get good much faster there. Try and put some time into each class, and find which ones you like more than others. I played over 20 hours with Pyro before coming the love the Spy. It will take some time. While you're at it, check the "Class Suggestions" section of these forums, there are many great threads for getting tips.

Yes more time more time and more time. This game has been out for a year, so people have been playing it a lot longer than you. Keep playing and you will know when you found your class.

I had around 70 hours of play time before I eventually settled on pyro as my main class. Give it some time and you'll find a class you like best.

BTW welcome to the forums, you should definitely take Stabby's advice and hop on the tf2f servers.

Practice as others have said.

But try and come out to some PUGs.  Who knows, you may piss people off becuase you don't know what you're doing.  But they'll stick you on pyro and you can have a wee-old time.  But the best thing is you'll learn REAL quick how to play and what to do.

Just make sure you don't get stuck on the idea of finding your one best class, be open to learning them all.

Instead of finding a class you want to be good at, play the class you have the most fun as. It may shift but that's normal. When I first started I played pyro, not very well though, then I fell in love with spy. Then I went over to medic.

One thing though, to prevent one class from going stale to you, regularly play different classes. It will keep your favorite class fun and give you experience in other classes.

All around practice is key. You cant cant defeat your opponents if you have never played them. By playing all classes, you'll start to see where they like to hide, when they like to attack and when they like to pounce.

The 'hump' of the learning curve on TF2 comes at around 50-100 hours of gameplay when you'll start being able to hold your own in pubs.
