Insanely high ping, please help.

Hey guys.

I bought the game a month ago but haven't been able to play till yesterday, and omg is it good. I freakin love it. I've been following it since it came out but I've got a mac so I could never play it.

I've only got one problem and that is my ping is at a solid 996... all the time. Very annoying because I can't get the full feel of the game when I'm skipping around everywhere.

I was wondering if someone could tell what's goin on? It can't be the computer because "can you run it" told me I can run it easily. I'm two walls away from my wireless modem but it doesn't usually seem this slow.

Well, are you connecting to a server in a different continent? If your ping is a solid 996 *all the time, on all servers*, that's fucked up. But if you've only tested one server....try another one?

Do you have the net graph turned on? the ping on the scoreboard does not update very rapidly so if may be fluctuating around that number, but it is only at that exact number when it updates. turn net graph on and see if it is solid 996.

I'm new to windows as well, so what's netgraph? And I'm joining local servers, so it can't be that.

I'm running windows on my mac but I've heard that it runs tf2 fine.

wait. your running windows on a mac..? is that possible?

Yeah, mac has this thing called bootcamp, it's pretty sweet. Pretty much lets you start up the computer in Windows OS, but it's also an entirely different computer in some ways, so if your windows effs up the mac part wont. I haven't had any problems.

while your ingame type net_graph 1-5, 1 for the simplest info (i recommend using 1) and 5 for the most complicated.

you have to put in into the console. to enable the console go to options and i think its in advanced(?) then check the console box. the hit the tilde key (the one that has ` and ~ on it) and type net_graph 1
