Is there a need for the medic?

My reasoning?

Medic is an easy class- he's Mouse1+W, occasionally Mouse2. Remind you of any class?
Medic has access to two gamebreaking abilities- invincibility and 10 seconds of crits, guarenteed.
Healthpacks are ubiquious, and engineers can now build level 3 dispensers.
Stops medic spamming
Raises the skill ceiling for all the other classes-

*Scouts need to know healthpack and dispenser locations
*Soldiers need to time their rocket jumps and can't attack close range
*Pyros no longer have the ability to mindlessly rush in with ubercharge
*Demomen have to learn how to eliminate sentries without the crux of an uber
*Heavies have to ration health and also have the sandvich
*Snipers never needed medics
*Spies need to be extra careful when sneaking around

In competitive play, the engineer fills the medic's role, whilst also providing additional firepower and teleports (and he's less likely to be taken out my scouts).
Encourages greater teamwork- with no medic, teams have to work harder to pull off attacks.

Really, this game would be much improved without this class.

See, you get things confused. You say Scouts need to know HP packs and such, but why wouldn't that apply to everyone?

Everyone would be too busy running around looking for health to shoot eachother. Less of an emphasis on protecting teammates etc..

I've seen 'good' medics breaking deadlocks in games, so YES!!  I think they're needed.

I've seen poor Medics do this. They're the best way to push though any defense, like multiple sentries. They break stale mates, they can control the tide of the battle

I hate people who defend pyro like this. So much. I don't support all of the hate for pyros, but people who make threads like this - joke or not, are far, far worse.

No, there is no need for a medic. It makes the game's dynamics a lot more interesting, I must say. 
Without medics, TF2 would more or less be Call of Duty 4. Deathmatching with a bunch of classes with different weapons.
