So jumping in combat is something I never really thought about, I just did it sometimes without thinking. Jump crouching when a rocket explodes under you reduces damage but can knock you higher, and on offensive terms jumping gives you a slightly higher point to fire your rocket from for easier aim.

Personally I jump like a rabbit whenever I'm fighting a demoman or a soldier with his launcher out, I like the higher point of view and reduced damage. It occurs to me though to reduce the possibility of being juggled and to make it easier to dodge projectiles (Can't change direction in the air, even though soldier direction change on the ground is slow it's still something) I should try and reduce jumping. I generally have no problem in solly vs solly but any edge is an edge.

So whats your view on jumping/jump crouching in combat? Is the higher point of view and reduced damage worth the predictability of movement and juggle factor? Do you even jump in shotty combat to try and confuse people that bit more?

For me, always a good idea, unless you have a medic with you.

RJ (Rocket Jumping) vz
- Scouts > Good, you remove yourself from danger, and with some practice, can block the scout movement on chasing you.
- Sollys > Not so good against good players, as you will be juggled.
- Pyros > Again, not so good against good players, perfect against
- Demos > Average, most demos want you to follow them, while they shoot stickies and blow'em... i like RJ as advantage, but most, just run away.
- Heavy > Natascha can really f*ck this tatic up... overall, i RJ to flee close heavys, as far damage is ridiculous
- Engy > never uses, engys are just weak combatants, Sentry if i have a hiding spot where i can go, i RJ to kill the engy,m then blast the sg.
- Medics > Use RJ to chase, attacking medic are just stupidly weak (those that want to melee you).
- Snipers > Against good snipers, I dont use.
- Spy > Just to chase, but usually dont.

duente hes not talking about rocket jumping, just spamming jump while in combat
mix it up, if you jump all the time you will get punished by good people, however when youre in their face jumping can give you a surprise advantage, or will at least make you take significantly less self damage

I dislike jumping against explosive classes because it lets them dictate where I go. That means I'm going to die as they will be able to predict my trajectory and hit the ground there right as I land.

I know alot of scouts try jumping in combat to make them harder to hit but I find my accuracy greatly decreases while im jumping about so I try not to jump so much. Many a time have I faced an enemy scout 1v1 and came out on top simpley because they missed me more than I missed them due to their jumping.

This is to do with soldiers, not jumping for scouts or any other class. Sorry. Although I guess other classes have to make a descision of jump crouching to avoid damage or to not jump to avoid juggling

It's unwise to erratically jump in combat versus any class while you're trying protect your medic.  Once you fly away it becomes open-medic season.  Erratically jumping is a bad idea in any case to be honest.  You should only jump when you know where the projectile is going to hit so you can accurately adjust yourself when you fly into the air.  If you spam jump versus another soldier, for example, if you don't know why you're jumping you might be caught off-guard, in which case you'll most likely fly straight up into the air and get raped.

The same can be said about double jumping as scout.  Spamming it without thinking first puts you in a dangerous position, because you can be easily juggled and stunned in the air.

Lastly, jumping is gay.

When fighting solly vs solly never jump.  Against any good player they will pop you up, juggle you with a rocket, then one shot you with his pro shotty.  You will be dead in a matter of 4 seconds.
