I almost wish that kill streaks would go from round-to-round if you don't die.  As a sniper (or any other class, really), your kill streaks are limited by the round-time.

With that said... my goal is 39 kills without dying... (to beat my counterstrike record of 38)

Thats going to be pretty difficult as a sniper, unless I can get on a map that stays put for a decent amount of time.

..... my current record is 20... and I think that took a solid 15 minutes.

Whatever you do as a sniper, make sure to stand back to wall if you want to live. I know a lot of spies (including me) finding much fun in hunting careless camping snipers. and even when face to wall you have to react quickly if he is trying to stab you to death. a few quick jabs and your done.

Also, if a sniper finds out your static position youll be toast by a scope-snapshot to the brainses!

Remember those 2 things when trying to find a suitable sniping spot. Good luck on your task, you're gonna need it

I would like to point out that this method doesn't work all the time, from experience as a spy. A spy can aim on the side as close to the back as possible and this can activate the backstab even though their back is to the wall. I know it's cheap and that it's the side so you have to watch out.

basically, be aware of footsteps in your vincinity. that helps as some first aid. if that fails, try to sit in a corner (of a room maybe) i do this on pyro def.

Oh, the spies aren't a problem in my favorite spots... I listen real well and keep a close account of nearby allies.  Its usually several other things that can present issues for me:

A quick win will stifle even the best sniper's killing streak.  You can headshot everything that twitches, but if the round is over in 2 minutes, you won't make a record kill streak.

Also, something I've encountered is that you constantly have to advance if you want a decent run, then you usually cannot just camp your spot the whole round... a successful team will be advancing toward the final capture point (or the intelligence), and after a few minutes, your sniping spot may be seeing little to no action.

The spies do come, though .  More often than not, though... they are the enemy snipers who are getting frustrated and respawn as a spy to try and get rid of a threat.

I know what you mean.. I always hear a spy JUST too late, and eather get stabbed, or manically run around, pulling my khukri and eventually killing the spy but getting badly hurt or often sniped in the mean time. I've also been massively embarresed by playing with the sound turned way too low, and having an engineer actually set a SG up next to me... O god the shame...

khukri? i am almost absolutely sure that is some kind of machete...

The problem is the following: some spies evaluate experiences and develop new tactics. Check it:

I did pyro def indoor on hydro once. I always keep in a corner, backstabproof, and one spy comes on to me and stabs me. one FIERY NAPALM BLAST OF CINDER FURY later he lies on the ground, well done indeed. Resupply, same position... after some time he tried just the same again. another FIERY NAPALM BLAST OF CINDER FURY and done... the third time he disguised as a sniper and stood in the room next to me... just in front of BULLET-PROOF glass... suspicious... FIERY NA... ah, you get the idea... and done... but then...

...he comes up the stairs, disguised... pulls out his revolver and starts shooting. i tried to counter, but he actually struck me down.

So beware from careful spies!

Well, a huge part of being a successful sniper is choosing a relatively protected spot to snipe from.  It should be a chore for the spy to get to you.  Obviously, he can cloak through a few lines of your defense, but... if you have 2 separate lines of defense between you and them... you are that much less likely to get a cloaked spy coming at you.

Meh... I didn't really say much of consequence right there... I just feel like it is rare that the same spy is able to repeatedly get right up within melee range time and time again.

Another tip for being a good sniper is to move around a lot.   Only take 3 or 4 shots from one spot before you move.  After you get killed by a sniper once you can usually get him based on where he shot you from.

Back to the main topic of this post, my current kill streak is 22.  It only took me like 10 minutes though cause the majority of them were headshots and i was playing extremely aggressive.
