http://www.joystiq.com/2009/06/04/hands-on-star-wars-the-old-republic/WE WANTS IT!!!! Seriously, how awesome does this sound? Here's where the aforementioned ambition comes into play -- each of the
game's classes will have its own personal story arc that lasts
throughout its entire lifespan. Beneath this umbrella is an epic
class-specific story as well as a few serialized mini-arcs which
include a ton of tied-together quests and instanced dungeons. Daniel
Erickson, The Old Republic's
lead writer, explained that the game's quests are so linked to a
player's personal story that no one quest will be embarked upon by two
different classes.Or, in other words, two characters from two
different classes won't receive any of the same quests. The replay
value here is going to be mind-boggling.

this has the potential to pull me back in to MMO's. Looks freaking sweet.

YEAH! I subscribed to this game's newsletter a few months ago, it looks so great! Shame that I won't play it (except for the beta should they have one) because of subscription fees Also, you MUST see this trailer! It's breath-takingly good.

I heard of this, and the first thing that came to mind was that theres no way you can have that many classes with the jedi system. I'm a big fan of mmo and game design but unless they completely whore the system out and stray from the main idea star wars went for, theres no way they can create a vast amount of classes. Its gonna be force (magic) and light saber (might). Theres just too many limits on melee when talking about a light saber, their main opening for this is force type stuff because no one can really define it, and even if you did it can enable pretty much anything.
From a weapons standpoint.... well the light saber doesnt need force to cut through stuff and theres no point in having multiple types of lightsabers (scyth, axe, mace (possible?) ect...) Classes won't have different weapons, and with a straight sword theres only so many styles and ways to fight. It'll overlap alot, even with two light sabers or the double sided darth maul style.
This is all mechanics though, most people may want the story and that could be pretty stellar if done correctly. Dunno if i'll pick it up, but its worth seeing what they do with the system.

That's why KOTOR is the only MMORPG I've ever considered playing. I just loved Bioware's story in KOTOR 1, so if it's even half as good, I think I'd really enjoy paying a monthly fee to romp around in the different classes.

Chro can ruin anything with his over-analysis.

Yeah I've been looking forward to see this on E3 and I came so hard at the cinematic trailer :3 Then I saw the live interview(gamespots) with two of the developers, which were two older men God damn it sounds interesting. However they have unique voices for each npc, super storytelling and wants to make it all a mmo+real rpg+star wars feeling on it all. Also unique combat system, all kinds of attacks to keep away from the repetative fights all the other MMOs have. They are going to be quite busy, but if they deliver what they promise, fuckyeah it's going to be a good mmo. Played WoW for almost 4 years, quit maybe 4months ago. This might be the MMO that I chose. But APB(all point bulletin) sounds very interesting as well :3 And FFXIV ._. God damnit, I'm going to clone myself so I can enjoy them all. But I need a new computer for that... ^^

I am not sure to understand completely what you say, do you affirm that there will be only few types of weapons in this game e.g. lightsabers? I thought there would be a trooper, smuggler and bounty hunter besides the usual Jedi and Sith roles. I guess there will be quite a few weapons (blasters rifles, pistols, etc.) in this game and a variety of playing styles, as was possible in KOTOR. I am pretty sure Bioware can pull this off in the gameplay aspect, they already did a fantastic job with both KOTORs; the only thing that is questionable IMO would be the feasability of a great storytelling. And, as in the article, if anyone can do it, it's Bioware.

Trooper, smuggler and BH were all in star wars galaxy, but i get a different feel from this game. I think most of the classes, if not all are going to be combat based. SWG you could do anything, pilot, governor (was in the expansion i didnt buy i believe), weapons professions, doctor/medic, weaponsmith, architect ect.... Thats why i say the focus is going to be jedi and light sabers, because why would you use anything else if you want to be melee. Sure, there will be guns, but again, its friggen star wars. Either you have the ability to do whatever you want with the force and have a light saber or use a gun (that has a high chance to be deflected). Guns are at a huge disadvantage, and if they change that then its what i would call whoring out the system. No point in being a jedi if you're going to be on par with an idiot with a metal sword
