I have come to the conclusion that it is impossible, because someone will always fuck up (even those on vent!).
Last night on no mercy, on the roof, we killed the first tank, flawlessly (everyone had 80 + hp and medkits / pills)
Then one genius on vent announces he's going to go get more molotovs, and with everyone yelling at him not to, he goes, gets grabbed by a smoker, and pounced by a hunter on his way back. "DON'T COME OUT AND GET ME" he said, so of course one of my other friends runs out and tries to help him, and gets pounced by the same hunter. So the other guy in the closet and I come out, and they get boomered, now we've got two hordes on us, and we lose.
Impossibible I say!

What's worse is how god damn tied into "steam friends" Left 4 Dead is.
Now, the campaigns are REALLY hard on expert. In fact it took us 7 hours and 24 minutes to beat Dead Air a few nights ago... but what's even worse is that this fucking game is so tied into steam friends the second steam friends goes down for "maintenance" it ruins your whole game. No achievements, no nothing... have fun starting over. What's worse is when only one person loses friends like I did during Dead Air... we are 4 hours in.. what am I going to tell those guys? "Hey sorry, but can we start over again so I can get my achievement?" That single handedly has ruined many campaigns when I've been HOURS in. They better fix a lot of these glaring issues. Also another god damn problem is that if the server admin puts it set on normal and you search expert, you get fucked because even if you "realize it" in time and vote it to be expert, it keeps resetting itself to normal every time you get to a safe house.... didn't realize that until 2 missions in either.. we thought voting to expert would KEEP it on expert.
RAWRR
As for how hard expert is? You'll probably get tons of people saying "oh blah blah I did it in 2 hours" "oh it was so easy" but the truth is you need to put away many hours and sadly with how bugged shit is now.. on top of how skilled you are you just need to get lucky and pray steam holds up... or it's all for nothing. I've beaten 2 campaigns on expert now and have zero to show for it, so I'm a bit bitter by default. ;p You know how much it sucks seeing 3 other people get both achievements for beating a campaign and beating in on expert and you are just there cussing steam?
Valve is lucky this game is so fucking amazing and I have so much fun playing it or I'd be a little more pissed. =]
EDIT: One more thing, we were on the finale of Death Toll last night... this wasn't expert though but it's still an issue... I have graphics and freezing issues so I tab out.. I couldn't tab back in time to re-undo my idle so they have no choice but to beat it without me. Yeah since I went idle beyond my control I get no credit for any of the Death Toll I just spent beating. It even reset my stats during the ending credits. So beware, try your hardest never to get get graphics issues and accidentally go idle right when you're about to beat a movie. ;p

Yeah I havne't gotten any achievements for completing any compaigns and I know I've gone completely through two on advanced at least. When I got back to the main menu I clicked on achievements and it said I wasn't logged into steam..........bah!
|
I've played through Dead Air on normal 4 times and on advanced twice.
All the way through.
Start to end.
And no achievement for completing it.
It is still missing.
I am not taking 8 hours to complete that wretched map on expert and not have it recorded by Steam.
btw, expert levels have eaten me alive within the first two maps of any campaign.

I have only gone through no mercy on expert. It took a little while and was frustrating at times, but I didn't find it to be THAT hard like everyone has been complaining about. You just have to go slow, and not make mistakes or have friends who make mistakes.
I got about half way through death toll and died on a part like 3-4 times, then made it through once but got boomered right as I was entering the safe house and died. After that I was to sad to try again. At least I know I can make it, I just need to suck it up and do it.

They need to lower the damage of regular zombies. 20 damage a hit? That's so much.
When you have one person who moves too fast, you will almost be guaranteed to have a few zombies behind you.
They will run in sporatically, and inevitably one or two will hit you. If you get hit twice, you're down to 60hp.
Can't they just dramatically increase the number of zombies, instead of upping their damage so much?

Beat No Mercy last night on expert. Me and my buddies always have an easy time on the finales. The strat we used is the stairwell by the gun. Close the doors, 2 people to a door. HOWEVER, One guy starts out in both, when he needs reloading he steps back. This works wonders because we've done it so much that it's automatic.
Regardless, We had some trouble, because friendly fire RAPES you, we had a few mishaps. Usually we have no flaws, but when the zombies are larger in number, and you panic, when we rotated the people, since the doors were taking damage, one of my buddies ran in front of a shotgun when he was low, he was incapacitated. >_>
Game is still fun :<

The problem I have alot on the finales is that, the spot with the guns, and ammo, blah blah, aren't neccessarily the best spots to defend.
And no one listens otherwise.
On Dead Air, you shouldn't defend the truck. You should be against the wall near the one plane, you can see everything coming and have ample time to deal with it.
Same goes for every other map. Everyone HAS to defend the top of the building on No Mercy. Get in the fucking closets.
Where the game wants you to defend is not always the best place.
To reiterate, you DO NOT have to defend exactly where the game wants you.
E D I T
Also, on Expert, you HAVE to move slow. Alot of people don't seem to get this.
|
I think Malhavok sumed it up nicely. I cant say I've ever beaten a finale on expert, because my friends always get frusterated after 4 or 5 tries that we move it down in difficulty.
|
I haven't made it to a finale on Expert yet, but I always try to defend near the guns so I can exploit the Auto-Shotty. 10 blasts from one shotty, pick up another fully loaded shotty from the table, repeat.
