Before everyone gives the trademark "that's stupid", think about. Then think about it some more. I'm basing it off Twilight princesses fight's with Black nights. You could use bows, bombs, and basically any weapon with limit of 4 storage spaces. Try to list the pro's and con's of this.

If properly balanced, it would be epic.

But knowing Nintendo these days, that would never happen.

Nintendo's Gold Egg Laying Gooses are:

Mario
Zelda
Donkey Kong
Metroid

These 4 repeatedly earn Nintendo massive accolades.  If you're thinking about taking the Zelda series (which, IMO, is a fan-freaking-tastic series) to multiplayer, the best thing to do, as Stabby hints at, is getting Nintendo's permission - and also as the McStabster hints, chances of them giving approval (or even responding) is pretty low.

Still, a buncha left-handed elfs in green tunics with all the Zelda-esque weapons/items may be one heck of an interesting game.

You forgot the good old Pogeymanz, Aegis.

LoZ Multiplayer would be fun, as long as it stayed in third-person.

Only if it was over-the-top 2D.
2D Zelda games are the ONLY Zelda games worth playing.

I was actually saying that Nintendo, if they ever decided to make it, would not be able to balance the game. Combat in Zelda has never had a skill cieling high enough to warrant anything more than a casual match in which person A spams multiple overpowered moves until they win.

There have been a couple of fan projects along these lines. I haven't kept up with the two I followed back in college, but I wouldn't be surprised if they just died off. Sad, since one of them was intended as a largely co-op play and social experience, more than just arena or something. A common town and custom-built "houses", that sort of thing.

Let me know if you find anything.
