Lightning Strikes

A couple of nights ago, we had a huge thunderstorm here. My sister, feeling adventurous, decided to try and take video of the lightning using our digital camera. While she didn't get much, there were a couple of amazing lightning strikes that she capture. Looking closely, one of the lightning bolts actually struck inside my fence, hitting my yard! Awesome, but kind of freaky at the same time. Especially knowing that my sister was filming out there, and for a while, she was using an umbrella.

We just got an iMac a couple of months ago, and I figured that trying to compile this lightning footage into a short video would be a cool project, and a cool way to learn how to use iMovie. After figuring out that iMovie 08 is pretty much worthless for any somewhat serious editing, I downloaded iMovie HD 6 (it is a free download to anyone with iLife 08). It was much better. I used JES Deinterlacer to slow down some footage to make slow motion shots. It works much better than iMovie's built in slow down stuff.

Anyways, this is just a short little video of some of the lightning we had last night. Any feedback is more than welcome!

While she was shooting video, I was walking the dogs. The storm started after I left.

And is cool what a nature clouds and a bit of static friction can produce
