I think I've been playing Portal too much lately...

True story...

Last night I was walking through the office building I work in and I caught a brief view of my reflection in a window from about 10 metres away - 30 feet for the Yanks out there :-) but only for like a half a second before I passed out of view.

It was so similar to seeing your reflection in Portal that I actually thought to myself, "Sh!t man! I don't remember putting a portal on that wall..."

*Sigh* Real life.... It just isn't as much fun as it used to be.

Mattsville -
I couldn't agree more, that is what made the game so thrilling is the feeling when you left that things just were not the same, so to speak.  Any video game could easily draw up the simple concept of portal, but only Valve could take such a concept and give it such a feeling that you find yourself constantly thinking of it.  Trust me after playing the game and beating the basic levels in four hours before bed I had some very "interesting" dreams that night.  So don't worry mate your not going crazy, Portal has created a phenomenon.  My hat is tipped to Valve for creating one of those special games you just can't shake even after walking away.

*** WARNING - Spoilers ahead! ***

I completely agree, mate!

Portal itself doesn't do a lot of super revolutionary things but what it does do, it does really well.

And I think it is all down to Valve's superb presentation of the ideas in Portal that make it such a great experience. An example of this would be the levels that contain the sentries. In just about every other game I've played that have had some form of sentry in it (Including Half Life 2), they were basically just a big hunk of instant metallic death with nothing really interesting about them except for the speed with which they could kill you.

Now a senty that talks to you, how friggin funny/cool is that? Sometimes I'll hang around sentries in a level just to see what they're going to say next (and it always makes me laugh when one of them says in a sweet voice "Could you come over here please?").

And how many games have had an insane super computer as the main bad guy? Loads... But GlaDOS has something many of the others don't - personality. Her insane ramblings at the end of the game are funny as hell, I think.  "No one likes you, you know. It says so in your personel file. See? Right here, unlikable".

And Valve has only just scratched the surface of what they can do with Portal and I can't wait to see what they come up with next. All different types of new portals, Portal multiplayer, the list goes on and on.
