Seriously! Where are the next-gen mech games? There are a few games with mech fights, but I want a game the focuses on mechs. I remember an old game called starsiege, it was back in the day of windows 98.
Isn't this awesome, not that Japanese crap!

Ah, Starsiege. You know, there's still servers up for it IIRC, though the graphics are a tad dated after 10 years =P. Starsiege 2845 got abandoned, so, for your mech fixes you're stuck with the Mechwarrior series. I much prefer Starsiege though.

It's kind of strange how now that we have the hardware to really bring completely immersive mech battles, no one's interested any more. Ditto for space combat sims...

Despite the potential, mech games were never too much fun.

Blasphemer.

Be gone! BE GONE!

I love the MechWarrior series myself.  I believe "Armored Core" is the only mech series really getting made nowadays, though.

Maybe I just don't like having a button whose sole use is to flush coolant.

While we're at it, what happened to tank games?

BattleZone was fun, and I still play it occasionally.  BZII had glitcher problems, but there are definitely third party patches for it.

Tank/Mech games died because they are essentially First Person Shooters with different controls and on a bigger scale. Plus it's difficult to gain a "tactical" advantage when all the buildings you're supposed to be hiding behind are smaller than you are.

I somewhat see the reason that mech games aren't as popular anymore: people like SPEED. In all the mech games I've played you don't get much faster than slow and if you do it's horribly done control wise. As games have evolved the majority of people either like games that take quick reactions or extreme stategy. Not saying that's all that people like, just saying that's what most games are these days and most are doing well.

That being said, I would gladly try any mech game that was sped up a bit and had a high team function. I never understood how one mech against the other was all that much fun as you pretty much only had to aim and fire (most FPSs, but when it's against a target that slow it's like two heavies trying to circlestrafe each other).

My 2 cents
