I haven't been playing Medic very long but this is what I try to do to make me a better medic:

1. As a Medic you're main support (well, the only support class really) and this means you need to play main defense. One of your main jobs, as well as healing your teammates, is to sniff out spies. Use your hand-saw and Syringe gun to shoot fellow teammates to make sure they're not the enemy spies. While you're following your heavy shoot your teammates.

2. Tell people when you die! Last night I killed my heavy a couple times before I realized I actually need to communicate with him and tell him when I die, otherwise they just keep fighting without realizing they're dead and then they die too. So, in short, when  you die, say something.

I'll have to disagree with you on both counts, PoserPunk.

1. The medic is awful for spy checking. His needle gun doesn't do much damage, and cloaked spies don't bleed, so it's awful for spy checks. If you're close enough to a spy to bonesaw him, then he's close enough to flip around and backstab you. And most importantly: if you've got your needle gun or bonesaw out you don't have your healgun out. This is bad when you're supposed to be healing. The best spy checker is the Pyro, and he should always be doing spy checks. On D the engineers should be spy checking like crazy, and on O everyone is spy checking all the time.

2. If your Heavy/Soldier/whatever is not paying attention to your health, then he is not your Buddy. When you're being healed, you see the health and ubercharge % of your healer, which means that you should be watching his health as much as your own (in fact, his health is more prominent in your HUD than yours is). If his health starts dropping, you should immediately start trying to kill the soldier/heavy/pyro/spy that is trying to kill your healer. It's more important to keep the medic alive than it is to keep yourself alive. The players who treat a medic as a walking source of endless health, as opposed to the most important part of the team (which he is) is the reason why so few people are willing to play a medic.

You got me on #1 Mellow

but let's get real about #2, most heavy's, unless your friend, could care less about the medic's hp and do think we're just an endless steam of life...

My tip would be not to waste über on heavys too, seeing they are close to invinsible anyways, and they usually has very little ammo when your übered up too..

AND HEAL DAMAGED PERSONEL! I hate it when medics just locks on to some heavy and heals him when theres 4 damaged teammates yelling for medics... your heavy or whoever doesnt die the instant you stop healing him.. especially when your in your territory and just walking to the frontlines

syringe gun has good damage if you learn to hit with all the darts... its kinda like a paintball gun, so just learn the syringe physics and it will prove to be lethal... but bonesaw is always a good option

HAH! ashwa you got me laughing there...

Heavy and nearly -invincible-?

A heavy firing breaks so incredibly fast... his low speed makes im a perfect target for Soldiers, Demomen, Sniper, Pyros (from behind), well, technically everyone... on long distances even a engineer with a pistol stands a chance against a heavy, believe me, i know what i am talking about!

OF COURSE you should never keep your hose stuck up the heavies a... you should always heal wounded team mates around you too, but a heavy in mid-battle is quite vulnerable...

heavy is nearlly invincible with 450 health and getting healed yes... i dunno how much damage that acually translates into, but for any enemy to go hunt for the medic, he will meet a wall of steel if the heavy pays attention that is... so if you stay close to a good heavy your pretty safe

of course i was referring to a heavy without a medic! a hosed heavy is a walking fortress, i know (except for (moderately) skilled snipers). A lone heavy with his 300 hp takes three direct hits from a rocket and then he is done for!

In the other case, of course, the medic is your primary target. I always go for the medic when rushing with a pyro (even though you can also bring a hosed heavy down when standing behind him at point blank range)

that is true.. pyro is sex when left to his own devices

Another tip: you keep healing your target no matter what direction you look... so keep an eye out for flankers...

Can someone say if it is true that you heal targets yelling for medic faster?! someone said that here... sounds strange

I think i saw that healing when you have uber ready is a lot faster but maybe i just got crit heal or something
