Microphone interference in my room

I wanted to record something for a video a little while ago, so I went to the room in my house that was most suitable for recording. I was recording when I realized, there was no low buzzing sound that my microphone usually makes when in my room. So that means that there's something in my room that causes this interference.

The things my room that could possibly making the interference are: Alarm Clock, Lava Lamp (You never know) and one of those lightning ball thingies that you touch and the lightning goes to your fingers.

I've tried unplugging all of these things and the interference is still there? What could be causing the interference in my room. (My room is on the second floor by the way)

Maybe is it inherent to the microphone itself.

He did say that the noise ceases to exist when he moves to a different room. That is a strange problem.

Well, use the ultimate solution and create a Faraday cage. Try doing it by wrapping aluminium foil around your microphone as a temporary solution. If you want to know what causes the interference, try unplugging literally *everything* that uses electricity then plug them on one at a time.

Is your notebook plugged into the wall when you are recording or are you just running off of the battery. If you're plugged into the wall then my guess is you're picking up some electrical feedback from something else that's plugged into the same circuit as the notebook. At work I had to plug my oscillating fan into a different outlet because my mic would have interference from the fan as they were both plugged into the same surge protector. When I plugged the fan into a completely different outlet the noise went away.

That's interesting because now that you mention it, I wasn't using the charger when recording downstairs. Crap I'm going to test that out now.

Yes the interference is coming from the charger. Unfortunately I must be plugged in to play the game. Does anybody know of a way to stop my charger from interfering?

Almost sounds like you have a ground loop.  Could possibly test another outlet that you know is on a different circuit in the house.  I actually had to rewire an outlet at one point because I was getting one through my surround sound years back.

How old is the house/wiring? If the wiring in the house is fairly old then it possibly doesn't have ground wires even if the plugs have a ground port which is what your charger might be picking up and then transferring to your mic. You'll have to check to see if the mic picks up the same kind of noise with your notebook plugged into an outlet somewhere else other than your house to eliminate the house wiring from the problem.

The quickest way to avoid a ground loop is to run everything off the same wall outlet, using a multi box if needed.
