I've played a lot of Scout these days...but I feel like I'm getting no where in terms of improving my killing skills. Every spawn I can only get a max of 3 kills before I die. Not to mention getting stupid deaths like letting pyros sneak behind me and burn me to death, or losing in a bat vs bone/scatter gun vs needles battle. Then suddenly this question comes into mind:

Am I not playing the scout with the right mind set?

Of course if I want to be a killing machine to try to climb the huge mountain of the score board, trying to be the one with most points/kills, scouts are obviously not the class for that. So does that mean that as a scout, I should try to advoid battle as much as possible and focus 80% of my duty to capture control points or grab intels while letting the rest of the team take care of the enemies? If thats the case, I'll have to be sneaky like the spy...but is that really what a scout should focus on?

No, you a medic hunter and a skirmisher.  You can pick off weak targets like medics, spies snipers and either draw the attention of heavier classes away from the rest of your team or score a kill on someone that is ignoring you.

Practice your movement an unpredictable scout is a monster (look at panfrie for example) to put down.  However at the same time don't neglect your aiming abilities.

few tips for you

1. get good at moveing over the terrain , use your double jump to its fullest potential.

2. never take teleporters , your the fastest and not as important as a heavy in the front lines , also you will wast more time waitng for a teleporter to recharge then running to the front lines

3. take side paths often , attacking from there front is suicide unless your skilled , and even then its still risky, but attacking from behind and properly , man you can do some damage

4. always try to keep your health and ammo at max , but if a team mate is near and he needs it more then you , let him have it , and go for the next closest one

5. this one is not so much of a tip then a basic truth/ you are weak, you are going to get killed, you are desposable , you are there to assisst the heavy attackers and take advatage of openings so your team can move forward, or have important infomation.
also i mean weak as in your health , not skill .

I find that I do best as scout on "open-ended" maps (2fort, ctf well, and gravelpit to some extent), often getting to the top of the pile. This isn't due to having a high K/D ratio, it's because I'm just killing and dying more quickly than my teammates. Nothing will take points from you, so as long as you can get kills quickly, you'll overtake them.
But that's not really the mindset that is appropriate for TF2.

I find that I do particularly badly as scout when there's a clear battle front between the two teams, and no way around it. I just want to be sure that you're not throwing yourself at impossible tasks.

My best runs as scout are defending on 2fort. I'm constantly trying to get behind and ambush the enemy, and then run back to the resupply. Even then, I don't expect to reach a 3:1 K/D ratio - I just hope to make the enemy curse my name.

scout should focus on staying elusive and unpredictable. your speed gives u the most freedom out of any class to decide whether to "go" or "not go". a lot of deaths when im a scout are based on that decision. sometimes it leads me into a sentry, or a rocket.

focus on getting into 1on1 situations with other classes, anything else you lay the risk of getting hit by crossfire (something any class with 125 health should avoid is high pressure combat like that). really, i think even good soldiers don't match up to a good scout.

u just gotta be smart. if u can't kill em, pester the hell out of them.

No one else said it, so I will.  ONE of your primary goals really should be capping points and flags.  You are the best class for it.  You hit a sentry, use teamwork then zip in.  OR, when a soldier is pop shotting the sentry, run in, you can usually get in and out before the sentry takes a bead off the other person and aims on you.

Analyzer, Scouts can handle battles as well as carry out objectives.  Like these guys said, develop your acrobatic skills but don't neglect your aim, and constantly flank your enemy, striking when they least expect it.  Toe-to-toe battles with other classes should be avoided most of the time.

The Bone Saw of course is superior to the Bat considering they do more damage as it is without Crits, and the Syringe Gun is never to be underestimated.  If you're facing competent Medics with good aim, simply take advantage of their slow projectile speed and just shoot them with the pistol, or better yet, as with any other class, hit them when they're not paying attention to you and then back off and switch to the pistol.

Play scout with the mind of a spy or pyro because they all relay on getting behind enemy line. You should also use the weapon heckling exploit, this works by getting close to the pyro and blast him with the scater, then jump or run backwards becasue his flamethrower can't reach you, then go in again and scatter him to death. This also works for the soldier, demo, medics, and sometimes heavies. and remember to always look behind you.

Dude, you're stealing from Daedalus' video verbatim or reiterating, stop it.  Are these your own words?  Do you truly believe all this advice and tried them out for yourself?  While I liked the video and it offered some solid advice and overall improved my game play, I don't always agree with Daedalus.  Many times in the video he was playing against less than competent players.  If you get close a Sniper can switch to his machete and wtfpwn your ass (although I suppose that's rare).  A good Engineer can still shoot you if he can aim and wrench you if you get close enough.  Have an open mind and try to find out what works best for you instead of recklessly believing everything you read or hear.  Jumping on top of people with brains is a foolish idea outside of pubs because a smart Heavy will look up and shove a wall of lead up your ass.  Even then, are these some things you do, as you stated at the beginning of your post?  Do you really carry out everything the video says?  Face stabs, although infuriatingly inconvenient and absurd, are rare, and you wouldn't have mentioned it if it weren't for Daedalus showing a clip of how he got killed by a Spy.  Staying away from a Spy is needless advice if they're foolish enough to try to knife a Scout to death, which is usually unsuccessful aside from a flick stab or a lucky face stab.  I could go further but I'm done.
