So I've been playing TF2 for a bit less than a week now, mostly in the Q goldrush server and the TF2F stock map servers (whichever one happens to have people in it). I really like it but for some reason I've gravitated to the Medic. Fortunately I read a bunch of guides prior to the game getting here so I was a decent medic from the get go. I've picked up Chief of Staff after about 22 hours in Medic--don't know how good that is.

My main observation on my time as a n00bmedic is that I need to be less aggressive and more cowardly for the good of the team. It's really tempting to charge into a combat zone to heal someone who's injured by if I die my team often suffers a lot of casualties while I wait to respawn especially if I'm the only medic. Sometimes I'm tempted to suicide to try to push the cart or cap the point... do any other medics usually push the cart or stay back?

The other is that I get killed by demomen the most, followed by pyros and snipers. All other classes don't seem to be that threatening. I can usually blutsauger scouts to death or their teammates will kill him before he gets me. Soldiers and heavies are slow enough that I usually can just run away. Spies are a nuisance but I probably have a 1:1 k/d ratio against them since most of my kills are from blutsaugered spies. I can usually see someone else get owned by a sentry before I run into it myself.

The other thing is I'm trying to figure out how to save my medic buddy if I see a spy run up behind him but in front of me. Usually I call spy on voicecom then whip out the blutsauger and I can usually kill the spy but only after he's stabbed my teammate. It's just hard to respond quickly.

I also just unlocked the ubersaw but I never used the bonesaw much, so what times is melee better than the blutsauger for fighting?

Welcome to the wonderful world of MEDIC! Glad you're getting into the game etc. To answer ur question about spies the only thing you can rly do is keep ur eyes on your back a lot of the time. I mean if a spy is about to kill ur fellow medic all you can do is yell and hope he turns in time, but its he's deal if he doesn't watch his back. The Ubersaw is great, but don't let it get you killed. I know when I got it I would keep trying to go in for kills trying to get my uber up, but would up dying. This has the reverse effect of getting ur uber up quickly, so my advice would be to use it on spies or if you happen to have a sniper 1 on 1 or something like that. Its a rly powerful tool, but don't think you can go all battle-medic cos of it. Hope that helps, watch my video for tips on using the krtizkreig here.

Wonderful?  What world is that?

Medic is a tough class to master.  Many will have you think it's easy cause all you do is keep a beam on people, but healing is only part of the class.  Yes, you'll do better if you play defensively rather than offensively.  As a Medic, one of the main roles you'll have is recon - such as calling out Spies which, btw, the best thing you can do is cut the beam and have at the Spy while he's not focused on you or keep the beam on them if the teammates health is low and he wouldn't be able to survive a regular knifing, let alone a backstab - don't feel bad if they die - you did you part and alerted them, the rest is up to them.

Read up on the Medic Guide I wrote up.  It's rather in depth.  As a Medic, you must remember that your role is TRUE support.  You get points mostly by assisting other players more than any other class tenfold.  Practice hiding, jumping and making yourself a difficult target.  Keep your eyes open and watch for odd behavior.  Either way, don't take offense to any player who tells you how to play - some players feel they have the right to tell Medics how to play the game - just ignore this idiocy.  In time, you'll know when you heal and when to pull out the Needlers/Saws.

Welcome to the Medical Associate.
