OK, first of off, please get rid of DBheights. We can have a full server going then Dbheights comes along and we get down to around 6v6 or 7v7. A lot of people leave (including myself) and some of the pro people who frequent our servers leave.
Next, this somewhat involves Dbheights, but I don't think we need 3 pl maps. I really think there should only be one, which would be Badwater Basin in my opinion. When DBheights or Goldrush is displayed as the next map, many people leave. As these 2 maps are basically spam fests (many choke points, tight corridors, easy to camp respawn areas). Badwater was definetly better thought out in that aspect. Also on Goldrush and Dbheights, people who enjoy playing classes such as Scout will have a hard time, as its hard killing people in the tight corridors and tight map space; getting past the chokepoints is a pain as well. Badwater can maintain a scout, is easier for sniper, and all the more spam classes are still effective. When I feel like playing scout, I can't on DB or GR because of these reasons.
Also, Mach4 in my opinion, definetly is not a good map for 12 v 12. It is best at 6v6 because it's an extremely small map. There's not many places to avoid enemies, and it can be a stalemate at times or a spamfest in the middle.
I actually don't mind this map in 6v6 comp play (it's not the best, but it's no 2fort), but for pubs it can become somewhat boring. Of course these are just my opinions, and people may or may not disagree with it.
All of this is mainly for the no-crit server. No-crit servers IMO normally attract more highly skilled players, and these players normally don't want to play pl maps, and prefer cp plays. On the crit server, I don't mind these maps being played.

I love PL maps, and while I don't like goldrush as much as badwater, I still think it's fun to play occasionally. It gives you your daily dose of spam. I don't like DBhieghts, I agree with you there. As for Mach4, it's also okay. I prefer maps where RED defends and BLU attacks because it doens't have the potential to go on forever.

i agree, personally i like dbheights, but not when everybody leaves. It's an ok map, seemed as a "filler".

I like DB Heights, but I'm probably not on the public server enough to enjoy it, so I can't really speak on there. But, I hate Mach4. I can't even play 6v6 Mach4, but 12v12 in a pub is just frustrating, and like Kermit said: a stalemate or a roll.

I would support removing goldrush and dbheights, and I'd suggest we try out hoodoo as another pl map to go along with Badwater. Also, I agree with Kermit that mach4 should be removed.
I wouldn't mind adding some new customs to either the no crit server or crit server to see how well they fare in 12v12, to kind of increase the variety rather than always doing stocks. Having Chaos on the server is great (personally one of my more favored maps for ctf), but I wouldn't mind seeing more esoteric or unexpected custom map choices.

Heres the thing. No custom is ever going to keep people on the servers. People just dont like em. I mean they do, but not everyone can agree on specific customs.
For stock maps it seems to be 3/4 in favour of most maps, and 1/4 against. For customs it seems to be 50/50%. Some people love them, and some people hate em.
So.....lol. So far in this thread, people have suggested removing every custom map except for castle4 (wtf?).
I understand what kermit is saying re: skilled players on nocrit not wanting pl. I will take this into more consideration as I change the rotations. I've been thinking about dumping goldrush for a while...so that will likely happen.
I personally dont like dustbowl, but it attracts a lot of ppl to the server. I know a lot of others here dont like it either. I dunno what to do about it really. I dig mach4 and i know others do too, i do understand it being small, and yeah that is a negative. Chaos is well liked by some, and well hated by others. again the 50/50 thing, and it applies to mach4 too.
Heres the deal, i am always very open to new map rotations. I think that the current one has been static for too long. I want to rotate maps in and out. Its partially a time thing, in that I dont have that much. But also, its very hard to make map rotations that people like, because no one likes the same thing.
I would say that the hardest part of this job is the map selection and rotation.
Some things you can expect in the future: A second nocrit server (just like #2, maybe even replacing #1 since NO ONE plays on it) this server would have a different map rotation altogether, and ive already got a working list but maybe we can get user submitted rotations. We could do a thread where people list their rotations and then I find a formal voting process and people can vote on their favs..
or maybe a digg style map thing, where people in this community can bubble up or bubble down maps by digging up or digging down. and then at the beginning of each monthi take the maps as they are ranked on this system and then put them into a rotation
