Here is what I would like the Spy to have come update time, not regarding new weapons:
  • Resupply cabinets and ammo boxes refill cloak. Ammo boxes refilling cloak would be very interesting as a pre-meditated "cloak path" would reward a clever spy, and it would just be an overall boost. Edit: If ever this was implemented, ammo boxes should restore 2 -4 seconds of cloak time. Enough to keep the action going (suggested by Dr_Whut)
  • Crouching while cloaked reduces speed of depletion. A Spy that actually sneaks around.
  • Backstabbing more clarified, backstabs not registering even when you hear it is devastating. (This one doesn't make too much sense, meh.)
  • Lift animation quickened.
  • A health toggle selection for the disguise kit, that if you press the primary button during class disguise selection, it will make your health appear in red, medium, or full.
  • Random ubercharge mater for Medic.
  • While disguised, changing weapons is connected to disguise's weapons. Edit: This is sounding problematic, so I say add another feature in the disguise kit that lets you toggle to "primary, secondary, melee", excluding tirtiary weapons.
  • While disguised, you can imitate every taunt of every class. (Excluding Pyro haduken)
  • When Spy reloads while cloaked, a third arm doesn't come out. To simplifiy this, no reloading while cloaked. It doesn't take that much away.
  • When a Spy kills a person, the death notice is delayed for 5 seconds. Just so Spies don't turn heads as quick as Pyros with Backburners.

Feel free to disagree with anything I said, if not everything (politely though). I did not think about it too hard, so I might have overlooked some of these, or left some ideas out. Yea, I know, my specialty is Soldier now, but back then the Spy was my favorite. Then I got into clan matches... and they weren't as useful as I thought they would be.

I'd say that list addresses most of the issues with Spy, although I think the ubercharge meter for medic and taunt imitation are probably taking it a bit far. Your first 2 bullets are the most crucial IMO, and I also would like to see cloak drain much more slowly if the spy is standing still (ala Crysis).

I agree with most of those except for the wait 5 seconds before the kill shows up. They have enough trouble with us already. If that was in place then there would be no stopping us!

Resupply cabinets and ammo boxes refill cloak. Ammo boxes refilling cloak would be very interesting as a pre-meditated "cloak path" would reward a clever spy, and it would just be an overall boost.
*Yes to cloak refilling at spawn, no to ammo boxes- In most maps ammo boxes are ubiquious, and the spy could become OP if he can continually cloak collecting ammo. For example, Dustbowl, stage 2, cap 2, on defense. As  a spy I l. ike to hang around BLU spawn. In effect, I could keep patrolling cloaked around the ammo boxes, only uncloaking to gank passing BLU players.

Crouching while cloaked reduces speed of depletion. A Spy that actually sneaks around.
*The cloak would have to drain a hell of a lot faster when crouched- crouching reduces your speed a hell of alot. It's a nice idea in theory, but it'd be too impractical.

Backstabbing more clarified, backstabs not registering even when you hear it is devastating. (This one doesn't make too much sense, meh.)
*Yes to improved backstab hit detection, though it was always be present in some form due to TF2 being an online gamme affected by lag and other such issues.

Lift animation quickened.
*No, the lift animation needs to stay. It's avoidable, an interesting challenge to land and it's kinda funky as well, in fitting with the spy's role.

  • A health toggle selection for the disguise kit, that if you press the primary button during class disguise selection, it will make your health appear in red, medium, or full.
  • Random ubercharge mater for Medic.
  • While disguised, changing weapons is connected to disguise's weapons.
These would be good for a week or so. It'll only lead to more stupid spychecking, reducing the actual amount of proper action you get into. Once the spy disguise was good enough to fool people. Now it isn't. A better disguise will soon become utterly useless, taking us back to square 1.

While disguised, you can imitate every taunt of every class. (Excluding Pyro haduken)
*No to taunts. People trying to prove they're not spies by taunting will be killed on sight. Plus it makes little sence.

When Spy reloads while cloaked, a third arm doesn't come out. To simplifiy this, no reloading while cloaked. It doesn't take that much away.
*Never noticed this issue. If it's just a graphical glitch, meh.

When a Spy kills a person, the death notice is delayed for 5 seconds. Just so Spies don't turn heads as quick as Pyros with Backburners.
*Yeah, I guess this could be useful, but it still shows up and if you listen close the "Backstab scream" is very noticable (It's saved my life when I hear my medic scream out and I turn to find a spy behind me- perfect Sasha fodder.

And for X.Static-
[Allow the] cloak [to] drain much more slowly if the spy is standing still.
*Interesting issue. If it's too slow, the spy is OP. Too fast, and it's barely more effective. The cloak technically lasts 10 seconds, 8 seconds when you consider cloaking and decloaking times. Cloaking and decloaking times need to remain at 1 second, so that's 8 seconds of full cloak. A 50% reduction in cloak would give you 12 seconds in total. Whilst that may not seem a lot more, neither does 8 seconds of basic cloak, but it does it's job extremely well when used effeciently.

Good points, I agree with most. I just quoted the ones I disagree on.

The crouching would just be a way that, if you are approaching a enemy-dense area and there isn't really a backstab oppurtunity, you would start crouching and wait for a chance to strike. It adds a little more sneakery to the Spy and gives him a chance to wait for the perfect chance to strike. Its the same as standing still and depleting less cloak, except you're crouching and can at least move. and I don't think it is at all impractical. Example: When running with cloak, I see I have about 4 seconds left with my meter, but an enemy group is right in front of me.. Retreat isn't an option, I am too close. Running behind isn't an option, the cloak will deplete by the time I try to get past them. What I can do here is crouch. If it is 75% reduction, it will give me 3 more seconds to just sit and wait until the group passes.

The lift animation is in regards to keeping up with competitive play, because shooting splash rockets at a squirmish Medic is way easier than landing a long backstab animation. It would make his kills quick, fast, and efficient, and finally restore some competitive intrest in him.

With the new disguise suggestions, it is assured that you will waste ammo on any suspicious acts of your teammates. As of now, the disguises are EXTREMELY stupid. If I see a teammate with halfish health, I will most certainly kill him. But if you know that a Spy can disguise with any health, with ubercharge meters, and can taunt, you will always be sure to spycheck. That 1 spycheck rocket can be 1 short of finishing that enemy Demoman. And tell me, when you call for med and see a Medic with 87% ubercharge ready, you won't get tricked at least once? Enough to get you paranoid. We aren't really back to square 1.

And the taunt imitation is for in-game hilarity. I guess people will have to start shooting at everyone who taunts, the mayhem and paranoia a Spy should be able to cause.

I think most of the OP's ideas were great, except for the taunting (not really necessary) and the disguised weapon changes (Why is that medic running around with his ubersaw out? Wait, there must be a spy around here! OMG everyone there's a spy! *3 pyro's come in and create a massive whirlwind of fiery death* *Predictably, spy burns to death*).

Anything else I would want to say has already been said, but I disagree with you here, because one thing that hasn't been considered is the amount that an ammo pack would refil. It would be drastically OP to have a big ammo box completely refil the bar. But a small refil could shave seconds off of the wait time and generally speed the action up for a spy.

the cloak time is good as it is if you have trouble managing your cloak time then play more badlands helps you a lot also try some smaller maps like mach4, the only thing that needs to be changed is the spawn area should refill cloak. Backstabbing animation is retarded but deal with it, it took me 30 hours to figure out the trick.
