Need help getting skin to work!

I recently made a skin for the backburner but it wont work even tho I have other skins from fpsbanana that do work so I was wondering is there more to making c_item skins work?

for example I extracted the.vtf stuff thru GCFScape then converted it to tga with VTFEdit then did my thing with photoshop saved it back as .vtf and put it in the c_item yet it always show the default backburner head thingy! I saved it  again in VTFEdit with a .vmt and it literally turned the backburner head into the flamethrower head!

I wonder what I'm doing wrong because I think my skin is a decent one if only I can see the final product in game!

Are you sure you put it in the right pace? It should be in Program Files/Steam/steamapps/<username>/team fortress 2/tf/materials/models/weapons/c_items just like the location you'd place a premade skin. If it is placed properly, see if you can open the VTF file for the original backburner skin and replace the image with your custom. Also, download another skin and take it apart to see what they've done. Best way to learn.

EDIT: Alternatively, the skins you need may be in a different folder ...\team fortress 2\tf\materials\models\weapons\v_flamethrower
